LUCIEN ST. HILAIRE (FILS, LOU) March 6, 1945 - April 8, 2017 In the arms of his loving wife, after a short and courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lucien at St. Boniface General Hospital. Lou is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Agnes, his loving daughter Susanne and her three children who were very special to Lou. He was predeceased by his son Lee in 1989. Lou will be missed by his brother, Georges, Marcel (Yvette) and Paul; his sisters, Denise Gervais, Madeleine Dupuis, Pauline (Gilbert) Gervais, Janine and Léonne (Wayne) VanWalleghem. He will also be missed by his in-laws, Claudette, Peggy and Laurette St. Hilaire, Marion Lagassé, Pat Olson, Vicky Halpenny-Lasko and Gloria (Richard) Baudry as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his parents, Adélard and Dorothée (nee Hébert); his brothers, Albert, Edmond and Roger; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Dupuis, Fernand Gervais; his sisters, Irène and Simone; his sisters-in-law, Rita and Ester St. Hilaire and parents-in-law, Steve and Nellie Lenchyshyn. Lou grew up in St. Pierre. After leaving school, he worked for Domtar where he met the love of his life Agnes. They married in October 1967 and moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked for his two brothers, Edmond and Paul. Lou was a family man and missed his family so much that they moved back to Winnipeg in 1973. He worked for Cambridge Dairies and Motor Coach. He retired early because of his health. Later on, he worked for Macdonald Youth Services for 12 years doing respite for foster parents. During those 12 years, he became close to many foster children and prided himself in being called grandpa. His daughter and her foster children were his pride and joy and the highlight of his life. He was full of love and generosity for everyone. He was a hard worker and an excellent cook. He greeted everyone who came to his home with open arms. His famous blueberry cheesecake was enjoyed by many. Lou, you fought a good fight and have earned your rest. We will miss you dearly and keep your memory close to our hearts. Sharing of memories will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Wpg, MB. A private interment will take place at St. Pierre Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lou to Macdonald Youth Services.
