Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINNIE MUNNIK (nee LYTEN, NIENHUIS) May 24, 1924 - May 3, 2017 Peacefully at the age of 92, Winnie passed away at the Misericordia Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Dirk in 1970. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Geri Carroll MacNeil; sons Ed (Rose) Nienhuis, Rene (Louise) Nienhuis and Marty (Melodie) Nienhuis; grandchildren Frank (Sandy), Melissa, Bradley (Tracy), Matt (Gail), Jason (Michelle), Kara (John), Brandy-Dawn (Jaret), Leah (Alan), Lindsay (Jeff), Aaron, Arlen (Anne), Marcus and Nicole along with 20 great-granchildren and her precious and beloved cat Pooky. Mom was a Correctional Officer at the Manitoba Youth Center in her earlier years. She was also an active member of the East Kildonan Horticultural Society and won many awards for her outstanding garden. She had a tremendous love for animals and spent countless hours volunteering at the Winnipeg Humane Society. Travelling was a great part of Mom's life, spending more than 30 winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She was instrumental in creating a Humane Society in Puero Vallarta. In accordance with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held. A private interment will be held at a later date. www.voyagefuneralhome.com

I met Winnie at my workplace a number of years ago. She and I became fast friends. She always wore a smile, even when she did not feel like smiling. Such a wonderful lady -- and I mean a real lady! Marty, Ed, and family. Your mom was a precious gem. I will never forget how kind you always were to her. May she rest in eternal peace.
