ROBERT TERRENCE JOHN PREST After a short but aggressive illness during which his family came together and never left his side, Bob died on May 21, 2017 at the age of 78 in St. Albert, AB. Bob is survived by Vera, his wife of 39 years, and their four children and 10 grandchildren, Ashley (Doug), Beverley, Maslen; Colin (Temple), Carter, Sophia; Terry (Tamara), Quinne, Dariane; Carmen (Kelvin), Cordin, Ethan, Owen, Bennett. He was predeceased by his first wife Beverley in 1976. Bob was born in Winnipeg on November 27, 1938. After spending his school-age years in Winnipeg, Bob joined the RCMP in 1957 and trained in Ottawa. Being an RCMP officer was Bob's life's work. He served proudly and valiantly for 22 years in "F" Division in Saskatchewan. Bob was stationed in Prince Albert, Melfort, Porcupine Plain, Tisdale, Waskesiu, Yorkton, Punnichy, Broadview, Kerrobert and Esterhazy. He retired at the rank of sergeant in 1980. Bob later worked as an audit supervisor with the Workers' Compensation Board in Edmonton. After he retired at age 55, Bob enjoyed golfing, building custom-fit golf clubs, wine-making and tinkering in his garage. He and Vera spent the winter months in Palm Springs. Bob was known to enjoy the odd "schnick" of rum. Bob married Beverley Porth in 1962 in Winnipeg and became the proud father of Ashley and Terry. When Bob married Vera in 1977 in Saskatoon, two families came together and he became the proud father of Colin and Carmen. He fondly described his family of six as the Prest Platoon. He became a grandfather 10 times between 1994 and 2012. To all who knew Bob, he was a leader, protector, survivor and sentinel. He was fiercely loyal, deeply kind and emphatically fair. He was stoic in his choices and will "maintiens le droit" always and forever. Bob wanted no funeral. Bob's final posting is at the RCMP Depot Division cemetery in Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
