Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKARL JOHAN RASMUSSEN Dad died on May 24, 2017. He is greatly missed by his son Randy; daughter-in-law Margaret; granddaughters Deborah (Damon) and Victoria (Bobby); great-grandchildren Corey, Carly (Gavin), Kiana and Angela; brothers Charlie of Spokane, WA USA and Tommy of Sweden, sister-in-law Vibeke of British Columbia, and his special friend Elly. Dad was predeceased by parents Gunner and Vibeke; wife Rigmor in 2005, after 57 years of marriage; brothers Kitte of Sweden and Henning of British Columbia, and great-grandchild Liam. Dad was born May 5, 1925 in the town of Roslev, Denmark. He apprenticed as a blacksmith and then a plumber. He met his future wife Rigmor and they wed in 1948. They decided to immigrate to Canada and arrived on May 24, 1951. Dad often joked that they ended up in Winnipeg because that was as far as their money would take them! Within a few weeks he had a job as a welder at Silverline Manufacturing. He also started a side business making wrought iron railings. In 1959 he went to work with Chicago Blower. They recognized his many talents and was soon a foreman, and had a long career there. In 1976 Karl and Rigmor decided to take their lives in a new direction and follow their passion for cooking, they bought the Pembina Café in Morden. After three successful years they left to open the Kronborg Restaurant on Pembina Highway. They ran this unique business specializing in Danish foods for nine years until retirement. In his younger days Dad was quite a sportsman. He loved deer and duck hunting, fishing and camping! This love of the outdoors led him to purchase a cottage on Long Pine Lake in Ontario. Many happy years were spent there building and entertaining! Dad was a life long stamp collector and was a founding member of the Scandinavian Collectors Club, and was also a member of the Winnipeg Philatelic Society. In their retirement Dad and Mom travelled extensively but always enjoyed entertaining family and friends at home. Their cooking skills were appreciated! After Mom's passing Dad continued to cook for all and taught many of his recipes to others. Dad's other hobbies were woodworking and gardening. He loved to make toy trains, trucks and little brain teasers. Some he would sell and others he would give away just for the pleasure of it. Dad looked forward to spring each year and couldn't wait to get out to his greenhouse to start planting! His full life ended in his favourite place, his garden. Dad was loved by all who knew him. We will miss him every day for the rest of our lives. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date. Friends and family will be contacted. With much delay I was confirmed in my fear that Kalle had passed away. Kalle and Rigmor were close and supportive friends of my late sister Anna during her stay in Winnipeg around 1967. I got to know them during their visits in Denmark, and after Kalle lost Rigmor me and my family had the pleasure of seeing Kalle as a guest in our home in Copenhagen. Kalle often phoned and every now and then I did what I could to contribute to his collecting hobby. I would like to get in touch with Randy, You are welcome to contact me by mail pjessendk-at-gmail.com. My thoughts go to all of Kalle's near and dear ones. - Posted by: Peter Jessen (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2021

We got to know Karl when we were working at Scott's Super A Foods (later St. Vital Market). Karl was one of our 'regulars' - he brought a lot of Danish product to the store for our customers, and I was lucky enough to spend some time with Karl at his home learning how to make pate, rullepolse, frikadeller, and my favourite - Danish pastry. He was a very dear man who lived a full life. He will be missed. - Matt Becker (and Natalie Gawazuk) - friends from St. Vital Market - Posted by: Matt Becker (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2017

Karl and Rigmor were our family friends as long as I can remember. We came to Canada from Denmark as well and met them at the Scandinavian Center on Young St. In the earl days. Karl made roulepose for Mom and Dad and brought many of his cucumbers for Mom to make her Danish Asier( pickles). Karl was a kind and loving man and will be missed by the Danish community and all who knew him. He was a wonderful man. Condolences to Randy and all the family. Karl was one of my parent's first friends when they arrived in Winnipeg from Denmark in 1951. He had himself only recently come to Canada. We, as a family often went on picnics and camping trips about Manitoba to get to know this wonderful land that we now call "Home". I remember being on a fishing trip to West Hawk Lake with Karl and his late wife Rigmor where I caught my first fish, sitting at the back of the rowboat. I ended up with 2 fish and Karl caught 1. My dad was not lucky enough to catch any, he probably was rowing more than Karl! I also remember a trip to Flin Flon in my early teens where we visited Duck mountain Prov. Park for some more fishing, caught my first Rainbow trout! Thanks for the memories, Karl! John Markmann - Posted by: John Markmann (Friend) on: May 30, 2017
