I remember going to Gary’s with my dad David because they were good friends from Co-op Implements. My dad always counted on Gary to fix our vehicles when my dad couldn’t, from welding the steering spline on my brothers 1975 Dodge Sportsman Van to replacing the thermostat on my other brothers 1986 Chevrolet Chevette. I bought my first car off Gary, a 1980 Pontiac Phoenix that he had driven many years before but I couldn’t get it safetied as the floor boards were rusted out. Gary you are now with my dad again as my dad passed away in 2013. Both you and my dad are sadly missed. - Posted by: Kory Snihur (Son of friend ) on: Oct 27, 2018

I guess I first met Gary when I was 12 (1951) and I made my way to the Parker and Edderton ave. areas of Fort Garry. Later it was in schools, General Byng, General Steele. In later years I knew him through our mutual friend Ed Unrau and our motorcycle era. Gary was a car buff then. He told me he played the music at the Victoria Community Club but I was too shy to go inside. It is still there at the west end of Byng Place. Gary helped me get my first car. A Mercury Comet for $50. And from then on he was there every time to help me get diff. cars and my 1/2 ton truck. He helped me get my driver's lic. for a car when I was 37. Always riding bikes I could never see myself being able to drive a car. He taught me how to park and drive. He was there when I asked for help and he answered my many questions about my cars and he fixed mine and hundreds of other people's cars too. I somehow missed how great a smile he had. I remember one sat. morning at Byng School where Ed and I were helping Ed's Dad clean the hallways. Gary drove up and when Mr Unrau asked Gary what he was up to, Gary said, "I'm getting married today!" We haven't seen much of each other in the last few years as friends sometimes do and I regret that very much. He will be remembered by many. - Posted by: Bill Martel (long time friend) on: Jun 16, 2017

We will miss you so much Gary.... every good morning, good night, hello and goodbye that was spoken throughout these many years of being neighbors. We will sure miss our many interesting conversations, our back and forth sarcastic remarks, and our good old bonfires. You were an incredible friend who always made sure our family was safe and sound. Although we can no longer share these wonderful times, we know you will continue watching over us. We will always check in on Bella, Krista and Chiquita. Rest in Peace dear neighbor! With lots of love! Xoxoxoxo - Posted by: Kelly, Leanne, Anders & Logan (Friends) on: Jun 15, 2017

R.I.P. Raymond "Gary" SMITH The time has come to say goodbye to by far the biggest influence in my life... my father Gary Smith. Thank you for working as hard as you did to provide us with the best lifestyle that you could. I will never forget the hours on end that we spent in the backyard and then later in the garage working together to keep everyone's cars on the road and safe. Countless people are forever grateful for you always helping them out in any way that you could. I will always cherish the memories of going out on Wednesday (?) nights to Brooklands Speedway to watch the dirt track oval races, the late night cruising with Clifford Smith and Ed Smith, both of which are equally responsible for my "rev-head" mentality that seemed to run in the SMITH blood. Those were the more intense times, but I also hold dear the quieter times times leaving the house in the wee hours of the morning to be fishing in remote Northern Manitoba lakes and rivers by sunrise, only to usually have to leave by noon due to having reached our limit of the usually elusive Pickerel by then. You have been a great Father to me through all the good times as well as the bad, and for that I am eternally grateful. I will never forget and always miss the times we have shared. Rest in peace and know that you are solely missed by many who will always be thankful for the having had the pleasure on having you in their lives. - Posted by: Kenneth SMTIH (son) on: Jun 15, 2017

Gary, we are good friends. We have always said to each other, we don't need to be in the same room or on the phone everyday, but when we want to talk, we will be there as we always are. When we did get together it was as if we never parted, just had a little more to talk about than normal. I have good memories of us Gary, and it is those I shall carry forward, and if we do end up in the same place, it will be as if we never parted, just more to talk about. We will miss you my friend. Bella, if there is anything We can do, please contact us. - Posted by: Don and Penny Inkster (Friends) on: Jun 14, 2017
