Wow Peter - this all happened way too fast for all of us. How we miss your stories already and how you made us laugh! The many field trips we had together and the many lunches and noon hour work-outs at the Rady Center! You had an incredible array of stories for us and if we were to write it out we would have a great book. I know your kids and grandkids have lost you too early but I hope they realize what a special person you were. RIP and we miss you already. Peter worked as a volunteer for Distributed Proofreaders for many years, proofreading out-of-copyright books so that they could be made available for everyone to read as e-books via Project Gutenberg. In his years with us, he proofread 27,545 pages! His tireless work and his friendly presence will be greatly missed by our volunteers. - Posted by: Linda Hamilton (General Manager, Distributed Proofreaders) on: Jul 19, 2017

I knew Peter because he worked with my husband, John Knowles. After Peter retired I called him up to see if he would like to help process books for an African literacy project. He started the next day. His warm, generous smile and his stories - many about his beloved dogs - brought a great deal of joy to our table. We met for the last time last month. He was busy writing, "What Makes Grandfather Tick." We will miss him. - Posted by: Kathy Knowles (a friend) on: Jul 14, 2017
