GAM FOO YEE June 5, 1923 - July 23, 2017 Our dear father, Gam Foo Yee, with family by his side, passed away peacefully at Parkview Long Term Care at 9:28 a.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the age of 94 years. His sudden death was painful to his family, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Po King; survived by oldest son Chu Kong (Garland), daughter-in-law Man Tsu (Linda) and grandchildren Laura and Christopher; second son Shing Yuen (James), daughter-in-law Shuer and granddaughters Carman and Monica; third son Shing Lee (Nelson), daughter-in-law Lin and grandson Jonathan, grandson Jason, his wife Rhoda, and granddaughter Victoria; youngest son Shing Man (Norman), daughter-in-law Angie and grandsons Andrew and Anthony; oldest daughter Kam Hun (Donna), son-in-law Fat Chiu (James) Chan, grandson Erastus, his wife Linda, grandson Ebenezer, his wife Grace and great-granddaughters Gabrielle and Kyla, granddaughter Eleana, her husband Albert and great-granddaughters Jayde and Jasmin, grandson Eleazar and his wife Angela; youngest daughter Hun Heung (Kitty), son-in-law Yuming (Ken) Ho and granddaughter Michelle. He was born an only child in Toishan, Mainland China on June 5, 1923 and married Mom in 1947. He was forced to leave his hometown and moved his family to Hong Kong in 1955. He worked very hard to provide for his young family by taking whatever hard labour jobs he could find at the time. In order to secure a better future for us, he undertook the apprenticeship of making guitars. After he completed his trainings and gained work experience, he established the family guitar manufacturing business with the help of Mom and sons until 1975. Our entire family immigrated to Winnipeg between 1973 and 1975, with the help of Donna and her husband James' sponsorship. Due to the language barrier, he changed his occupation from guitar making to chop suey cooking in the Chinese restaurants in Winnipeg to continue his support of his family. Dad, although you were a man with few words, your hard work and devotion did not go unnoticed. We are grateful to you for giving nothing but the best to us and we are forever indebted to you. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, with viewing at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or charity of your choice.
