Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS ADOLPH NORRIS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doug. Dad passed away, at the age of 88, at the Riverview Health Centre on August 21, 2017 after battling cancer for over two years. Dad was predeceased by his wife Jean (Westin) and parents, Jean (Drobb) and Adolph. Dad will be deeply missed by his children, Cathy (Paul), David (Lizz) and Jeffrey (Corinne); grandchildren, Christina, Dawn, Erik, Lisa, Anthony and Carly; and great-grandchildren, Matteo, Madison, Gianpaolo, Cristiano and Ayla. Doug was born on October 13, 1928 in Winnipeg. He met our mom Jean while going to school at the University of North Dakota and they were married on May 29, 1954 in Grand Forks. Dad graduated with a Masters in Science for bacteriology (microbiology) and was recruited by the Gray Nuns to open the microbiology lab at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. He was director there until he retired and found many unusual bacteria that needed to be terminated to save the lives of many patients. He also owned and was the microbiologist at Provencher Medical Lab with several partners who had unique specialties for the lab. Dad would work a couple hours there after working a full day at the hospital. Dad loved to take the family with our trailer to many fishing spots across Canada. He also loved wood working and cross country skiing with family and friends. Our dad and mom travelled to Sweden, Germany, the condo in Florida, and many places in Canada and the USA to visit family and friends. Dad logged countless hours of driving getting to the destinations. A celebration of Doug's life will be held on September 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St. A special thank you goes out to all the thoughtful and supportive staff at Riverview Health Centre, 3E palliative care, for their care and compassion and to all his friends that came to visit him there. Dad is dancing with our mom Jean once again in heaven, his life partner since 1954. In lieu of flowers, people can honour Doug's memory with donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
