LAURITS SORENSEN BUUS June 7, 1925 - September 7, 2017 It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Laurits Sorensen Buus, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the age of 92. Dad was born June 7, 1925 in Denmark. Dad married the woman of his dreams, Herdis Thogersen, August 23, 1947, together they came to Canada with their two sons Paul and Svend. Within the first week Dad secured employment in the construction field. Dad worked for numerous companies until 1969 when he started his own construction business. Then in 1975 started Buus Construction with his sons. They worked in many towns in Manitoba and Northern Ontario. Their home was always open to other Danes who immigrated to Canada. Together they always found room for one more. In the early 1960s together the family cleared and built a cottage in Betula Lake, making many more lasting friends. Dad enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, blueberry picking, music, dancing and playing cards. Dad also enjoyed snowmobiling, being a long-time member of the Springhill Trailblazers. His love of the water lead to building their home on the bank of the Red River, north of Selkirk. He also built a houseboat where he took many family and friends up and down the Red. 10:00 a.m. coffee time at the Lord every day with his buddies. Laurits had an amazing memory which he turned into writing his memoirs. He always had stories of his life, places he has been, his childhood at the age of five, the war and names of his friends he worked with in Denmark and Manitoba. Stories of his brothers and sisters and working from the young age of 10. Laurits retired in 1990. Dad and Mom took many trips back to Denmark to visit family and friends, trips in their motorhome to Alaska, all over the United States, Mexico, the western provinces of Canada and all over Manitoba. Laurits was predeceased by his wife Herdis, three sisters Anna Marie, Mette Marie and Hilda, three brothers Soren, Henning and Karl, brothers-in-law and sisters-in- laws, and also a grandson Kaleb. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Poul (Linda), Svend (Diane), John (Kim), and nephew Soren who was like a son; grandchildren Cheryl, Ken (Anjie), Nancy (Russel), Erik (Erin), Craig (Tamsyn), Lindsay and Arden; great-grandchildren Connley, Grayce, Liberty, Tori, Jonas (Brittany), Damon, Koltin, Brooklyn and Ryker; many nieces and nephews, and great-great-grandchildren Josten and Eve. We, the family and friends, would like to thank all of Dad's caregivers on Ward 8 of the Tyndall Building, Selkirk. Thank you for your excellent care, dedication and patience. A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring's Church, 479 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba.
