Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE MERRITT (née BALES) On Friday, September 8, 2017, with family by her side, Myrtle peacefully passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Born June 22, 1926 in Brooklands, Manitoba to Burl and Edith (Sylvester) Bales. Myrtle was predeceased by her devoted husband Kenneth, her mother Edith, her father Burl, her brother Melvin, and her son-in-law Sidney Gunn. She is survived by her daughter Shirley, her son Keith (Lorraine), grandsons, Paul (Alison), Randy, and great grandsons, Drew and Alexander. Myrtle worked at Bab's Beauty Parlor and was a hairdresser at Hollywood Beauty Parlor. In February 1943, while they were dating, Ken enrolled in the Army. Two months after his return from overseas, on March 1, 1947, Myrtle and Ken were married in the Salvation Army Chapel in Norwood, Manitoba. They enjoyed travelling together throughout Canada and the USA during their 36 years of marriage. Myrtle devoted her life to her family. Her generosity and selflessness knew no bounds. She was the kind of Grandma that every child dreams of, always coming up with fun ways to entertain her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her quick wit and great sense of humour made every family function special. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Viewing will take place at 1:00 p.m. prior to service. Interment will follow at St. Vital Cemetery. Mom, grandma, gigi, friend, you will be missed, but always remembered with much love, till we meet again.
