Date of Passing: Oct 05, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALDINE (DEAN) MILDRED RICHMOND (nee AUGER) In the early morning of October 5, 2017, Geraldine (Dean) Richmond, passed away peacefully, just 11 days shy of her 92nd birthday. Dean will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Pat (John) and Kelley; her granddaughter Erin and her nephews and nieces, Bob, Bill, Jim, Candy and Jacquie. She was predeceased by her husband Jack; her parents, William and Barbara; her brother Gordon; her sisters, Margaret, Dorothy and Helen and her niece Christie. Dean was born in Winnipeg on October 16, 1925 and grew up in the Riverview area. Following graduation from Gordon Bell Collegiate, she worked for her father and a neighbourhood physician before marrying Jack and becoming a wife, mother and homemaker. Dean cherished her family and made it her life's work to care for them and maintain a loving home. Dean was a very creative person who had many hobbies. She really had a talent for decorating, sewing and other types of handiwork. She took great pride in her home and the beautiful things she had collected over the years. Dean loved antiques and had a knack for discovering diamonds in the rough. She never shied away from a tough restoration or home decorating project. Dean was also a skilled seamstress. She would often sew something to wear for a special occasion or night out and undoubtedly, pair it with a stunning hat. Dean loved to travel and was blessed to have been able to take numerous trips with Jack to amazing places while they still had their good health. Dean also enjoyed old movies, live theatre and her guilty pleasure, daytime soap operas, but it was her love of music that gave her the most joy, especially in her final years. Dean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. If we needed help or support, she was always there, whether it was to solve a problem, give advice, take on a task, or provide comfort. Most of all Dean was a survivor. She had an immense will to live which sustained her through her battles with breast cancer, a heart attack, a stroke, and most of all the dementia that robbed her and her family of so much. In spite of all those challenges, she soldiered on with class, dignity and courage. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dean's devoted caregivers at Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home. You showed such love and compassion for Dean during the most difficult years of her life. You made it very clear how much her smile and presence meant to all who cared for her. A service celebrating Dean's life will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dean may be made to a charity of your choice. The family suggests a charity supporting research to cure or prevent breast cancer, heart disease and strokes, or dementia. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at glenlawn.ca. My family lived across the street from the Richmonds on Montgomery Avenue until our move from the city in 1963. Dean and my mom helped Pat and me stay in touch, first via postcards, and then letters - a friendship which we maintain to this day. I have fond memories of playing with Pat in the "rumpus" basement room of their home. It was indeed a loving home. Rest in peace Dean, with your beloved Jack. - Posted by: Shelley Rose (Friend of Dean and Jack's daughter Pat and her husband John) on: Oct 14, 2017
