IAN JOHNSTON HAIMES It is with such sadness that I announce the passing of my best friend and husband of 31 years, on Friday, October 20, 2017. Ian is survived by his loving wife Mary, sister Catherine (Art) Line, sisters-in-law Willy (Tom) Kliner, Helen (Dave) Brydges, Petra (Al Katz) Russell, and numerous nephews and nieces. Ian served for 28 years as a Winnipeg police officer, in the North End, St. James, and St. Boniface districts. Ian was an avid sailor, and on days off could be found at Northern Harbour, Lake of the Woods. He retired in 2004, and spent the next 11 years exploring the southern U.S. States, finally settling on Mims, Florida as an ideal spot to stay put. He enjoyed building model airplanes and mastering flying them. Ian will be missed for his compassion for everyone he came into contact with, his sense of humour, his story telling ability, his freely sharing of his opinion with everyone, whether you wanted it or not, and there wasn't a joke he could not remember and embellish on that made it that much better. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Glen Lawn Reception Centre, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Special thanks to the staff of the 6th floor, Dialysis Unit, Health Sciences Centre; Dr. Yamashita, Cardiac surgeon, St. Boniface General Hospital, and emergency staff both first responders and St. Boniface General Hospital ER staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ian to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

I just read this sad news. I am gutted right now. I worked with Ian in D3 days back in 1981. We became very good friends, though as usual, we hadn't seen each other in a long time. I have such fond memories of my time working with Ian. I can't say any more right now. I'm heartbroken. My sincere condolences to his family and especially Mary. - Posted by: Bob Russell (Friend and old partner) on: Oct 29, 2017
