JON CHALMERS 1941-2017
Date of Passing: Oct 29, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJON CHALMERS 1941-2017 With broken hearts, the family of Jon Chalmers announces his passing on October 29, 2017, at Concordia Hospital where he spent his last four days. Jon grew up at Winnipeg Beach and moved to Winnipeg to complete high school. He was a constable with the Winnipeg Police Department, and later worked in Communications for the Winnipeg Fire Department, retiring in 1992. Family was most important to Jon. He was happiest when the kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends came over for a swim, barbeque or dinner. A sports fanatic, he loved his basement sports bar, complete with two continuously running TVs. Jon and Rae opened their home and their hearts to family and friends freely. If Jon knew your favourite beverage - from chocolate milk to a beer - he made sure his fridge was stocked. Jon is survived by his beloved wife Rae, daughter Cheryl and son Keith. Jon said the two happiest days of his life were the day Cheryl was born and the day Keith was born. Keith brought Leah into the family and Jon said he won the daughter-in-law lottery. Also left to mourn his passing are his much loved/much teased sister Donna Mae and brother-in-law Ian Fillingham, his favourite sister-in-law, Mary Chalmers, his grandchildren Justin Metzker, Merine Haas, Chad Kosowan, Brian Murphy and Brett Murphy, his great-granddaughter Myia Genereux, nephews and nieces, Jay Long, Jaci Donaghy, Andy Donaghy, Alison Chalmers-Justl, Alan Fillingham, Katie Chalmers-Brooks, Kristin Stoezel and their families. Jon enjoyed his friendships with Fred Anderson, Ned Easton, Richard Kurtz, Hans Osted, George Robb, and Andy Zurawsky. Rae would like to thank Jon's doctor, Dr. J. Drexler, for his many years of care, support and humour, Dr. Amrit Malik for giving Jon eight more years, Ken Bennison for being the best neighbour and friend in the world and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for all their help over the past few months. Rae also personally thanks Dr. John Walker for his support. Jon is predeceased by his parents Jim and Jona, and his brother Frank. In memory of Jon, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Police Museum, 245 Smith St. Wpg., R3C or a charity of your choice. Jon's ashes shall be scattered at Lake Winnipeg and a private family service will be held. We love you.
