HENRY KROEGER February 20, 1934 - November 1, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our precious father, Henry (Hank) Kroeger on November 1 at the age of 83 years. After bravely facing a rapid illness, our dad transitioned peacefully at home, with family by his side. Left to cherish his memory, is Dad's devoted wife and our dear mom Selma, daughters Sandra (Godfrey), Angela and Jodi (Rick), grandchildren Jaymie, Brendan, Carly, Zac, Jesse, Lauren and Ty, and many treasured, extended family members and special friends. Dad was born in Namaka, AB to George and Katy Kroeger, the 'middle child' to five older and five younger siblings. His family moved from Namaka to experience five years of wilderness life in Blue Ridge, AB, and then in 1940 settled on a farm in Rapid City, MB. As a young man, Dad attended the Manitoba Technology School in Winnipeg where he completed a five year apprenticeship in auto body. In 1958, Dad made a permanent move to Winnipeg where he later opened his own business, North Kildonan Auto Body, which thrived until his retirement. He married our sweet mom on January 29, 1966, and moved straight into raising us girls, surrounded by wonderful neighbours and close friends. Dad worked tirelessly to support our family, giving us many opportunities for which we are forever grateful. Our dad could fix anything, and continued to tinker and grow his collection of gadgets and tools throughout his life. Everyone enjoyed his endless sense of humour, which continued until his last days. Dad was surrounded by music as a child and throughout his adult life. His whole family sang and played instruments, and this was a huge joy for him. He had a deep appreciation for choral music, sang in the First Mennonite Mixed Choir and Male Choir until his hearing faded, and perhaps his favourite album of all time was Robert Shaw Chorale, 'With Love From a Chorus'. Dad loved sports! Both as a participant and spectator (Go Jets! Go Bombers!), and brought his playful, competitive spirit to all his endeavours. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, and his passion for curling and golf continued throughout his life. He was proud of his curling accomplishments, winning provincial titles, the Senior Mens Nationals in 1987, and in 2007 he was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame. Dad was an active member and board member at his beloved Pine Ridge Golf Course for 50 years. It broke our hearts this year when he could no longer hit the ball, despite his intense determination to continue with this pastime that brought him SO much joy throughout his life. In these last few months, Dad truly treasured the love and connection with his family. He has always showed his love through action and kind deeds, and his biggest message to us throughout his life was "Never Give Up". Our hearts feel broken to let him go, but we will forever treasure the memories we shared with him. A celebration of our Dad's life will be held on November 10 at 12:00 noon at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg. • Hank was a good friend at church, in the choir, socially, on the golf course and while organizing, promoting and managing a golf tournament on behalf of MCC. He deserved a lot of respect for his talented and friendly participation.. Although I was fortunate to not require much auto body work, whatever service his well managed shop did provide was most satisfactory. I am so sorry that he had to die so early in life. Frieda and I pass on our very sincere condolences. - Posted by: Edward H Epp (long time friend) on: Nov 04, 2017
