LILLIAN BLOOMQUIST (nee LAMBERT) It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian Bloomquist in the early hours of Wednesday, November 8, 2017, with family at her side. Lillian is survived by two daughters, Linda (Steve Nause) and Sharon Bloomquist; five grandchildren, Leanne (Tio Bellisario), Christopher Nause, Jared Nause, Rhiannon Dueck, Michael Bloomquist; three great -grandchildren, Noah Nause, Stefano Bellisario and Myles Bloomquist; and siblings Louise (Ron Haas) and Juliette Bourgeois. Lillian was predeceased by her parents Julien and Blanche Lambert; siblings Maurice Lambert, Cecile Gray, Leo Lambert; and sons Brian and Wayne. Lillian was born April 3, 1931, in St. Jean Baptiste. At a very young age she made a name for herself as the "town babysitter". She loved children and provided childcare for many families in order to earn a few coins. Also at a very young age, as a self-taught seamstress, she loved to sew for herself and others. Her sewing skills provided her with one of her first jobs in Winnipeg where she sewed coats for Jacob Crowley Co. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years of her marriage to the late Kenneth Bloomquist. While raising her own children she provided foster care to many babies and young children. She eventually went to work for the CAS of Winnipeg as a case aide carrying on her work with children. Following her retirement from CAS she held part-time positions at Club Laverendrye and Medical Arts. Our family knows Lillian to be a "fighter". She was diagnosed many years ago with COPD and had been fighting for her every breath. With her determination she has lived a long life and tried hard to have as active a life as the disease allowed. While she was still able, she loved getting into her car and visiting family and friends in Winnipeg and in rural Manitoba. Her many years of league bowling at Club Laverendrye and playing cards with the Red River Seniors Club were two activities she very reluctantly had to give up because of her COPD. Mom thanked God every day for all the good things in her life. The family would like to thank WRHA Home Oxygen program and Home Care for their many years of care and support. Special thanks to her two long term Home Care workers, Ainslie and Gayle, and her case coordinator Josh. Also thanks to Dr. Cheung for his kind care and to all the doctors and nurses who were involved in Lil's final days. Lillian is being cremated and a small private family gathering is planned in lieu of a formal service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Siloam Mission, Salvation Army or any other local charity of choice.
