Born: Nov 18, 2000
Date of Passing: Nov 09, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMATTHEW ADAM AMBRENAC Tragically on November 9, 2017, Matthew Adam Ambrenac passed away at the age of 16 at Children's Hospital in Winnipeg. After years of battling his depression, Matthew made the decision to end his pain. Matthew was predeceased by his dad Mario, who passed away in 2016. Left behind to cherish his memory are his mom Chrissy, his younger brother Mitchell, his Opa and Oma Frank and Reni Koesters, his Dida and Baba Antun and Maria Ambrenac, and his Great Baba Ivka Curic. He will also be missed by his Auntie Sandy Kiazyk (Jonathan), cousins Joshua and Nicolas, and his Aunt Vicky Chernak (Rob) and cousins Alyssa and Justyn. Matthew was born on November 18, 2000 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, and was a character right from the get-go. He was always inquisitive and bright, saying his first words at six months. As a toddler, Matthew was a dinosaur expert and wanted to be a paleontologist. Matthew grew up in Kildonan Estates/Harborview and attended Springfield Heights School followed by John Henderson and Miles Macdonell. As he got older his passion for science grew and he was a lover of astronomy and chemistry, often reading textbooks well beyond his years. He was passionate about current affairs and politics. There was no subject Matt did not have an opinion on, and he never shied away from a good debate. He will be remembered for his quick wit and cheeky humour. Matt also cherished his cats Neon and Gavin and truly was a cat whisperer. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and there are many memories of great times on family camping trips and vacations. Mitchell will always remember Matt as a great big brother, teacher, and most importantly a great friend. A celebration of Matthew's life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. As Matthew's service will be held on his birthday, his family asks that donations of unwrapped toys be brought to the service and will be given in his memory to the Christmas Cheer Board. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Robb Nash Project, 1(844) 400-6274, or to Craig Street Cats. We would like to extend a special thank you to Winnipeg First Responders and the exceptional staff at Children's Emergency and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Health Sciences Centre. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Thank you for being someone you offered time to I will always cherish what you’ve done for me how you changed my life. Matthew strengthened my desire for success and happiness in my life I wish I could have done the same for him, he was beautiful, brilliant, and someone I had aspired to be like. Something he always said to me when I cried “Even when you’re sad I can make you laugh” Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for existing in my life. - Posted by: Amada baker (Long distant friend ) on: May 21, 2018

My heart fills with sadness upon hearing of your passing Matthew, you will truly be missed. For many weeks prior to hearing of your passing, I thought of you, I wondered how you were doing. We lost touch moving into grade 10, which I deeply regret. I miss hearing your laugh in our old classroom. You never failed to put a smile on my face, even when i was going through a depression of my own. I only wish I could have helped you like you helped me. I will always remember you. I send my sincerest condolences to your family. - Posted by: Taylor (Former Classmate ) on: Nov 24, 2017

My two youngest children went through school with Matthew from Springfield Heights, John Henderson and Miles Macdonell. My son was part on an online gaming group with some really great friends that included Matthew. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time and we hope you draw strength from family and friends and the support of the community around you. - Posted by: Anonymous () on: Nov 16, 2017
