HERBERT MARTENS October 30, 1942 - November 14, 2017 With family by his side, Herb found everlasting peace on Tuesday. Left to mourn his passing are his faithful and loving wife Jillian; and his children Timothy and Elisa (Steven); his grandchildren Kristen (Matthias), Karlie (Jeremy), Haley, Skylar, and Zander; along with his many friends will cherish his memory. Herb came to Canada with his mom, Elisabeth Martens, when he was six. He touched many lives throughout his life; from his school days, time in the Air Force, working casinos, magic, curling, golf, the Dairymaid breakfast club solving all the world's problems, as well as all those he met while couriering around the city. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their care and compassion, going above and beyond during this difficult time. A celebration of Herb's life will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Garden Park Baptist Church, 1825 Inkster Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Winnipeg Humane Society. He may have left this world, but he will live on forever in our hearts. I chatted with Herb every two weeks when he picked up @ our office. He is one of the most pleasant people I have ever met. He loved telling and I loved listening to his fun stories of his family trips he looked forward to each winter (so much so he brought in pictures) very proud of his family. All of our staff enjoyed dealing with Herb and he will be missed. - Posted by: Elaine Livingstone () on: Nov 23, 2017

Although I have not seen Herb for , at least 50 years, we grew up in our teens together. We went through lots of growing up problems but still had a good time. I wanted to go to his celebration of life but the weather stopped me. Rest in peace my old friend.. Condolences to Jill and his family.. - Posted by: Grant Warren (Long ago friend) on: Nov 21, 2017

"Uncle"Herb became a part of my life when we moved to Winnipeg in the early 70s when I was 10. He and Jill were my stepdad, Oliver and my mom Eileen's best friends. Whether it was dropping in to have coffee Saturday mornings or dancing at a house party or social, Herbie was full of life and fun and wisdom too. He taught me about driving a stick shift (or tried to), showed us all how to play cribbage really well and was the person who taught me curling and he even endured my attempts at it for one whole curling season on his team. Later in life it was playing bridge, talks of travel and amazing tasty dinners. He was always someone I respected and loved - a role model and decent loving man. He will be deeply missed. My heart and condolences go out to Jill, Elisa and family. God bless you all and grant you solace, peace and love. Dorée. - Posted by: Dorée Sabourin (Friend) on: Nov 18, 2017

My deepest condolences to the family of Uncle Herbie. I will greatly miss this most precious loving man. I will miss his laugh and his big hugs. May he rest in peace in that big golf course in the sky. God bless Aunty Jill and the family. Love always and forever Joanne Esposito - Posted by: Joanne Esposito (Family) on: Nov 18, 2017
