PETER ANTHONY KAVANAGH April 28, 1939 - December 5, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Kavanagh on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Boniface Hospital. Predeceased by his mother Gertrude; father Percy; sisters, Mary and Sheelagh. He leaves behind his wife Margaret and sons, Jonathan (Cindy) and James (Lori); grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler and Sarah and sister Nuala. Pete was born in Liverpool, England. Educated at two Benedictine boarding schools, Worth Abbey in Sussex and Downside Abbey in Somerset. He obtained a BA in French and Spanish at Bristol University, a Certificate in Education at Redland Training College, Bristol and a BA in Education at the University of Manitoba. Pete and Margaret were married in 1962 and lived for six months in Paris while Pete studied at the Sorbonne University. Pete taught at St. Brendan's College in Bristol, a Christian brothers' boys' grammar school before moving with his family to Winnipeg in 1970. He taught at Grant Park High School, Elmwood and General Wolfe. Pete excelled in sports while at school and in Bristol played rugby and cricket for Clifton Rugby Club. He and Margaret enjoyed curling at the Heather Curling Club with the Weakenders and also sang for many years with the St. Ignatius Church Choir. When he retired, he started golfing and spent many happy hours at Oakwood Golf Club. Pete was a quiet gentle man who loved his family, was a popular teacher and had a great sense of humour. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street. The family would like to thank Dr. Penner, Dr. Shepertycky, Dr. Wong and the medical team. Special thanks to the staff on 5E.
