NETTIE (ANASTASIA) ZURAWELL (nee POPOWICH) March 25, 1930 - January 3, 2018 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Nettie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Phyllis, son, David (Alma), grandchildren, sisters, Kay Diakow, Mary Wasylkiw, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Nettie was born near Buchanan, SK. She grew up on a farm, worked in Yorkton, SK and later moved to Toronto, ON where she married her husband, John. There, she worked as a seamstress and waitress for many years. Later, the family moved to Welland, ON where they successfully opened their own upholstery business. In 1977, the family moved to Winnipeg, MB where she retired. Nettie's excellent cooking was unsurpassed and the requests for her recipes were numerous. Her seamstress skills created many beautiful clothes, comforters and upholstered furniture, and her love of gardening provided many homemade jars of delicious canned food. Throughout her life, she was a very devoted, caring and loving person who was always kind and generous and will forever be remembered in our hearts. Her family is blessed to have shared so many precious years, leaving a multitude of memories to cherish forever. Evening viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. from Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. Many thanks to all the staff at Concordia Hospital and home care for the excellent care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nettie's memory to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. My condolences to Phyllis, David and Alma and the rest of the family. I did not hear until today. Our family lived in Toronto and spent a lot of time with Auntie Nettie, Uncle John, Phyllis and David. I remember as a kid, she made the best chicken soup and I always looked forward to having some. She will always remain in your heart and your memories. - Posted by: Marilyn Brown (Zurawell) (Niece) on: Jan 25, 2018
