OLGA POKRANT Olga Pokrant (nee Kehler) passed away peacefully on January 13, 2018 at the Altona Community Memorial Hospital. She was 98 years old. Olga grew up in the Altona village. After high school, she attended Normal School (teacher's college) at the University of Manitoba. She taught for 10 years in Haskett, Winkler and Altona. She was proud of her profession and never tired of telling stories about the classroom. Olga married Arnold Pokrant in 1948. They celebrated 69 years of marriage in July, 2017. Olga and Arnold lived on the Pokrant family farm in Rosenfeld where they raised their three children. Their eldest son, Bruce, was born with severe handicaps and Olga devoted her life to ensuring he received the best possible care. After retirement, Arnold and Olga moved to Altona. Olga will be remembered for her intelligence, determination and independence. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed listening to classical music. She was a talented cook, seamstress and knitter. Olga is survived by her children, Colleen (John Bakkelund) and Ken (Cindy Kozak) and her granddaughters, Breanna and Aleesha Bakkelund. She was predeceased by her children, Bruce and Glenda and by her husband Arnold. Funeral services in memory of Olga Pokrant will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld.
