GERALD GILBERT PERRAULT May 11, 1927 - January 17, 2018 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Gerry, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, on January 17, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents Rosa and Wilfred, sister Florence, and brother Ronald. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Louise, of 65 years, his sons, Allen (Gisele), Garry (Jacqueline), Guy (Tuula) and daughter Diane (Rod), grandchildren, Kristen (Darren), Sherry (Brad), Trevor (Chelsea), Jessica (Mac), Tyson (Yumi), Dana (Terry), Sean (Lauren), Kyle (Nicole) and Derek, and great-grandchildren Autumn, Dell and Carter. Gerald was born May 11, 1927 in Aubigny where he attended school, grades 1 to 9. In 1947 the family moved to St. Jean. For a period of time, he worked at the Eaton's Mail Order and his father's Auto Body Shop. Also, he completed an auto body course and a welding course at a Winnipeg Trade School. On February 23, 1952, he married Louise Vermette and they moved to Emerson to start the Emerson Paint & Auto Body Shop which included operating a 24 hour towing business. Also he operated an Auto Body shop in Morden for approximately five years. After 25 years running his own business, he started a new career with the Provincial Government Department of Highways as a truck inspector, first working on restrictions and then at the Emerson scales. Later he became a Supervisor and would travel to different provincial scales. In 1971, the family relocated to Winnipeg where he worked as a cashier for the Department of Highways. He retired from the Department of Highways after 25 years of service. After, he took on a part-time maintenance job at Journeys End Motel where he worked for approximately nine years and retired again at 71. Dad enjoyed spending time with his family; especially at family celebrations and time at their Winnipeg Beach cottage. He was supportive and very proud of his children and grandchildren. Dad had a soft side and would become emotional when hearing about his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. His hobbies included planting a large garden every summer, feeding birds especially Wrens, and in his earlier years duck hunting. He also enjoyed travelling with Louise. They made numerous trips to Hawaii, Mainland USA, as well as cruises. Rest in peace -- you lived life to it's fullest. Your family will dearly miss your presence. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • Dear Auntie Louise and Family, we are so saddened and sorry to hear about Uncle Gerry. We have very fond memories of special times together. From the time I was little, for special occasions in St. Jean and Emerson to adults with our young children in Hawaii. These memories will be treasured. Love Wayne, Joann, Josh and Shayne. - Posted by: Wayne and Joann Reitmeier (Nephew) on: Jan 24, 2018

  • Gerald was my amazing grandfather, growing up as a young child he was always "Jerry the grandpa" to me. Living most of my life on the West Coast meant not being able to see him as much as I wanted, but it made those visits back to Winnipeg that much more special. I was always so excited to walk in the front door and see him and give him a hug and start chatting about what was happening in life. There are no shortage of wonderful memories I have with you grandpa... playing pool, hanging out at the cottage and planting the garden together are just a few of my favorites. I will always cherish the few years I lived in Winnipeg during and after College and the amount of time we were able to spend together. After moving back to Vancouver we kept in touch and spoke almost weekly, I always loved trading stories and chatting about the differences in weather between our homes haha it was always good for a laugh. You had a wonderful sense of humor and could bring laughter and happiness into any situation. I am so glad we were able to speak just a few days before your passing. You will be truly missed and life won't be the same without you. You had a heart of gold and the calming loving personality to go with it. You were not only my amazing Grandpa but one of my best friends. Thank you for always being there for me. Love you Grandpa - Tyson Perrault - Posted by: Tyson Perrault (Grandson) on: Jan 20, 2018
