RICHARD EDWARD SORBY January 13, 1947 - January 27, 2018 Peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Richard passed away at the age of 71 with Cathie by his side. Richard was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, January 13, 1947, the only child of Edward and Gertrude Sorby. The family moved to the Sudbury area where Richard attended elementary and secondary school in Azilda and Chelmsford. They returned to Winnipeg in 1965. In January 1966, Richard returned to Sudbury to work at Falconbridge Nickel as an electrical apprentice for three and a half years. In August of 1969 he returned to Winnipeg. He attended Red River College and upon completion of his course he began a 25 year career at C.N.R, retiring in June 1999 from Roadway Stores division at Transcona shops. Richard enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, some classical music, movies, dinners and holiday gatherings at Cathie's, trips to Sudbury to catch up with his relatives and friends. Left to mourn Richard's passing are his special friend and companion Catherine (Cathie) Shemely numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's choice. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. from Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. Winnipeg, Manitoba. I would just like to say sorry for me and mum. To Cathy for not being there for her. Mum had a stroke a year ago this thanksgiving. If you where calling her she never went back home. So sorry to read of the passing of Richard. I met him through my time in Winnipeg when I was a long time Realtor there. He was a friendly and very pleasant fellow.
