JEAN (GENIA) BLANCHARD (nee NASTIUK) December 10, 1933 - February 11, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at Riverview Health Centre, with family at her side, at 84 years of age, on February 11, 2018. Jean was born on December 10, 1933 and grew up on a farm at Sundown, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg in 1952 looking for a job, which she found with Jeanies Bakery. In 1953, she found a full-time job at Safeway in the meat department which she worked at until her retirement in 1992. Mom happened to meet Dad in 1952 during a blind date which began a most amazing journey!! Roy and Jean both retired at 58 (1992) and spent a few winters in Texas with their truck and camper trailer. Jean's passion was to cook, sew, and to make sure her family was taken care of. She will be missed by all, especially her wisdom which she had lots of! She was the Million Dollars Mother and Grandmother that everyone wanted, but she was ALL of ours. She was a woman of strength and she stayed with us as long as she could!! We will all miss your pails full of Baba's cookies, meatballs, and yes, the special butter tarts. She is survived by her husband Roy Blanchard, married in 1956, began a true partnership of love and devotion that spanned for 61 years. Also, son Edward (Janice) Blanchard, grandchildren, Jessica (Mike), Kevin and Justin Blanchard; her daughter Diane MacNeil and grandchildren Robert Johnson (Miranda), Brittany (Ryan) McAdams, Brianna MacNeil and great-grandchild Autumn Johnson, step-great-grandchildren Ellie and Aubrie. Survived by sister Mary (Peter) Zadorozny, sister-in-law Kay Nastiuk, along with numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Elmer Blanchard, and sisters-in-law Shirley (Elmer) Nyrose, Hazel Sketon and Elaine (John) Vandermeulon. She was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Nastiuk, brothers Bill, Nick Nastiuk, and sister Dorothy Harrow. The family would like to thank her caregiver who provided compassionate in home care during her lengthy illness; special thanks to you too Chris and Michelle and the Riverview staff on the 3rd East floor. Love your husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandkids. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our condolences to you, Roy and your family. Clarke and Ruth - Posted by: Clarke Burnett (Old friend) on: Feb 15, 2018

  • In the spring of 1971 we were truly blessed when we moved to Howden Road and met Roy and Jean Blanchard. Jean was an amazing caring, classy, funny lady who was always there for us with advise and support. In 1977 when Adam was born we would not have been able to get thru the first year if it were not for her continual guidance and "just checking up on how things are going!". Jean was the best Godmother we could have chosen for Adam and the wonderful memories we have of her giving of time to Adam and us. From babysitting, to special occasions, graduations, shower and that special wedding day of Adam and Lucy. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you as you face this very challenging time. Jean is at peace and without pain. We will all cherish the memories, her kindness and those butter tarts! - Posted by: Frank, Cynthia, Adam & Lucy Lischynski (Former Neighbour and Friend) on: Feb 14, 2018
