My father was Michael (Frank) Sobie & he worked with Walter at Mitchell Copp Jewellers in Winnipeg. Walter was a wonderful friend to my Dad & I remember how much we enjoyed his visits to our home. Walter was always so friendly to us children & he spent a great deal of time with Dad after Dad retired. Although Walter was much younger than Dad, they had a common bond that kept their friendship alive until Dad's death in 2001. Walter also took the time to visit my mother after Dad died because he knew she was going through a very sad time. My fondest memory of Walter was when he came by our house to pick up Dad so that they could take their yearly trips "across the line". A few guys got together for one weekend every year to play cards, drink, & shop for all kinds of special treats that were brought home for us kids to enjoy. Dad often talked about the good times he & Walter shared on those trips. Our sincerest condolences to Walter's family. He was a compassionate & loyal friend who will be dearly missed by the Sobie family. - Posted by: Bernadine Brown (nee Sobie) (Family friend) on: Feb 26, 2018

My dad Mike Sobie (Frank) worked with Walter at Mitchell Copp Jewellers. They became good friends. They use to go on long weekend trips to Grand Forks. When I was a kid I couldn’t wait for Walter to come over, just so I could see and sit in his 1959 Dodge Royal car in which he kept in good shape!! My deepest sympathies go out to Walters family!! - Posted by: Jeff sobie (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2018
