GEORGE SCOTT With a deep sense of sorrow and loss we are announcing the passing of George Scott. George came to Canada from Scotland in 1968 where he started his lifelong career with the Northwest Company. George specialized in fur buying and this allowed him to travel to many different parts of Canada and beyond. George retired from the company in 2009. His love for travel continued and he has been a frequent visitor to Greece, Ireland and Phoenix over the years. While not having immediate family, George adopted both the Moore family of Oakville, and the Gillespies of Winnipeg as his own. George will be sadly missed by a wide number of friends. It is our intention to acknowledge George's passing by celebrating what would have been his 70th birthday in May of this year. Details of this event to follow. George lived his life as he chose and will be recognized and remembered for his dry sense of humour and total generosity. Already Bill Moore and Alastair Gillespie are missing their third amigo. Rest in peace George. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

George will be remembered as a fellow adventurer who mastered a very challenging field in a unique market. He was always well respected for his knowledge and dedication. Rest well my friend. - Posted by: Gary Eggertson (Co-worker) on: Mar 04, 2018

I am very sorry to have read about George’s passing this morning. I knew George in Thunder Bay when he came to work for my father at the Hudson’s Bay Company Raw Fur Department. At that time I was around 11, 12 years old and as a child loved listening to his Scottish accent. He also had the coolest blue sports car that we sometimes stored in our backyard. As his family was in Scotland, he would have Christmas dinners with us. We moved to Winnipeg in 1974 and I believe George moved on to Newfoundland at some point. My mother, sister and I went to Scotland in 1977 and had the pleasure of meeting and spending a day with George’s mom and dad. George eventually moved to Winnipeg to do the same job my father had once held at the North West Company on Main Street. On behalf of my father Les McIntosh and myself, to the Moore and Gillespie families, please accept our condolences. - Posted by: Debbie Huffman () on: Mar 03, 2018

Deepest condolences to all of George’s friends. I was honoured to make and present to George his “retirement Beaver Book” at his retirement party. George had a wonderful sense of humour and will be deeply missed. I’m sure many of us will recall one or two “George” stories. - Posted by: Peggy Meiklejohn (Co-worker) on: Mar 03, 2018
