GIOVANNA PRENCIPE (nee TARONNO) December 16, 1931 - February 28, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Giovanna was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Francesco. Giovanna was also predeceased by her mother, Grace, and father, Antonio, as well as her older sister, Massimo, brothers Sandy, Pat, Dino and Gino (Margaret), and brother-in-law Matteo DiMaggio. Giovanna will forever be remembered by her four children; Matteo, Filomena (Bruce), Tony (Kim), and Grace. She was a loving grandmother to Dale (Heidi), William (Jamie), Tony, Wesley, Danielle, Joanna, Crystal, and Adele. She also adored her great-grandchildren: Ashley, Desirae, Milana, and Carina. She will also be missed by her sister, Phyllis, and brothers, Mike (Sabia), Massimo (Joanne) and sisters-in-law Luciana and Marlene Giovanna was born in San Giovanni Rotondo, Foggia, Italy in 1931. She and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1961 with their children. Giovanna had a very strong work ethic. She worked for both Perth's and Quinton's, all while maintaining a busy household. Mom was a strong-willed, energetic and generous person. She believed in strong family values and instilled this in all of us. Mom loved to cook, especially making homemade pasta, breads, pizza, sausage and Italian desserts. All of her cooking was exceptional, especially her lasagna and incomparable fresh pasta sauce. No guest ever left Giovanna's home hungry, even if they were visiting for a moment. She also loved spending time with her family at the Winnipeg Beach cabin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Viewing and condolences commence prior at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street, immediately after the service. Pallbearers will be Matt Prencipe, Tony Prencipe, Dale Graham, William Donaldson, Wesley Donaldson, Massimo Taronno, and Bernie Taronno. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation http://www.heartandstroke.ca/.
