Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNETTE AXELROD The family of Annette Axelrod (Kunein) is sad to announce her passing, on March 22, 2018 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her husband Manny; her sisters, Rose, Becky and Ruthy; as well as her sisters-in-law, Merle and Debi. She leaves to mourn her sister Lil Tutelman; her son Shawn (Helen); her daughters, Sharon Davis (Bob) and Gwen. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Arlin (Shannon), Hana Weber (Mike) and great-grandchildren, Brendan, Chase, Chloe, Marianne, Elodie and Lilyanna. Mom was born March 2, 1926 and lived in Winnipeg her entire life. She grew up in the North End where she made many lifelong friends. She left school at 16 to help her father in his painting business. She learned to paint houses and hang wallpaper for the princely sum of 25 cents an hour. This was a great point of pride for Mom, as being a lady painter and paper hanger was not a common job at the time. People were sometimes surprised to see a woman show up to "do a man's work". She always guaranteed her work and would go back years later if some wallpaper began to lift. She became "famous" when Gene Telpner did a story about her for the Winnipeg Tribune. Mom and Dad were married June 24, 1951. They bought their forever home on Airlies in 1958 and Mom lived there for the next 55 years, staying on after Dad passed away suddenly in 2002. Mom was also an avid bowler right up into her mid 80s. She did a lot of volunteer work, especially at Seven Oaks Hospital where she volunteered for over 25 years. Mom also made appearances as "Baba The Clown" on special occasions. She loved to socialize with her friends and they had many great times together. Mom spent her last years at the Shaftesbury Residence in the company of old friends, some of whom she had gone to school with at William Whyte School in the 1930s. Our family would like to thank the staff, in particular the home care ladies, who helped Mom through her final years. Mom's last few months were spent at the Simkin Centre Personal Care Home, where she received loving care for which we are profoundly grateful. Even as her memory began to fail, her sense of humour remained. She loved a good joke. Graveside service was held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, with Rabbi Mass officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rehabilitation Centre for Children, 1155 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 3G1 or to the charity of your choice.

We grew to know Annette from her frequent visits to our gift shop (Bela Casa Gifts) at Northgate Shopping Centre. She always stopped in to see how the staff was doing. She always had a smile to share, a kind word to say and would leave us with a smile and some times in laughter. She will be missed. May She always smile and make others smile in heaven, God bless her for all she did and bring comfort to the family in knowing they had a very special lady in their life who brought so much kindness, spunk, laughter, smiles and love to all she met. God has another special angel. Xoxo - Posted by: Paulo Cabral & A. & E. Delgado - Management of Bela Casa Gifts (Friend) on: Mar 31, 2018

I was saddened to read about Annette, a very interesting and versatile woman. We met through Bnai Brith Women organization, and both grew up in the old North End , and Garden City for many years. My deepest sympathy to her family. Sadly, Esther Weinstein, now of Vancouver. - Posted by: esther weinstein (friend) on: Mar 31, 2018
