GREGORY J. WELCH 1947 - 2018 It is with broken hearts that we announce Greg's passing, at home, March 19, 2018. Greg will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Nicky, of 23 years. His memory will be cherished by his daughters, Sarah, Leah, Becki and Jess; who thought the world of him. Also left to mourn are his treasured grandchildren, Rylie, Lexie, Kayden, Anton, Leo and Felix; who will never forget the fun times spent with their grandpa. As well as his sisters, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great friends, especially his hunting buddies, and his right hand Rhonda. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Greg achieved the highest mark on graduation from the RCMP, prior to embarking on a 45-year career as a lawyer. His clients, the lawyers and judges and others whom he worked with, all had tremendous respect for him. He had an amazing impact on numerous lives. His advice and direction was always tempered with great consideration of the person going through a difficult time in their lives. This was one of the significant factors that set Greg apart. At Greg's request, there will not be a formal service. Special thanks to everyone at CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Canadian Blood Services.

  • Just heard the news from Sherman. Sorry to hear. We will always remember the fun times we had growing up. - Posted by: Dan Murphy (childhood friend) on: May 15, 2018

  • Way too soon. So sorry to see this Nicky. So many good memories of a very fun guy. BBQ Prime rib roast has always brought Greg to mind with a smile. Condolences to all of you. - Posted by: sally Brodrick (old friend) on: Apr 23, 2018

  • My uncle Greg was the only lawyer I knew growing up. Without his example, I don't know that I would have thought becoming a lawyer was possible. Today, I run my own firm. I remember my Uncle Greg for how jolly he always was. I don't think I ever saw him without a smile. I will always remember a memorable Christmas when I looked at my brother's big present with envy. Uncle Greg told me sometimes the best gifts come in the smallest packages. The little box that held my present was a radio! I don't remember what he gave my brother, but I remember thinking it wasn't nearly as good as my radio. Uncle Greg made me feel special, and not just because he gave really good presents. He had a kindness in him that I try to emulate, in my law practice, and in my life. - Posted by: Ronalee Carey (Niece) on: Apr 18, 2018

  • My deepest condolences to Greg's family, friends and co-workers. This was sad news for everyone in our office as Greg was always such a pleasure to deal with. He will be missed. - Posted by: Brenda Bell (lawyer) on: Apr 17, 2018

  • Please accept my condolences. Greg spent a great deal of time in my office learning the ins and outs of practicing law and it was great fun to have him around. It was a sad time to lose him from this community but he obviously made his mark in Winnipeg and Kenora. He will be missed by many of the folks that he looked after during his career. It is sad to see that he has passed on. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Ken Whent (Lawyer) on: Apr 16, 2018

  • With shock I read of Greg’s passing. I had the opportunity to deal with Greg on family law cases we had over the years together. I always found him to be practical and very trustworthy. He always cut through the nonsense and got to the brass tacks. He was one of the good guys in the legal profession. He will be missed. - Posted by: Norm Yusim (Colleague) on: Apr 07, 2018

  • One of the best lawyers I have had the privilege to work with in court. I always took Greg's advice as a mentor and will miss him so much. - Posted by: Mark Mymko (Friend) on: Apr 06, 2018

  • I remember walking into Greg’s office back in 2009 when I was welcomed by his wonderful assistant Rhonda. He was absolutely an amazing man who gave me advice and guidance over the years. We reconnected in 2015, and with his direction my life changed for the better. He was VERY proud of his family. To his family my deepest sympathy to you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Lisa Konowich (Client ) on: Apr 02, 2018
