DOROTHY ALICE JENSEN (LEAR)
Date of Passing: Mar 24, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY ALICE JENSEN (LEAR) Dot passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2018 at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home where she had been a resident for nearly seven years. Dot suffered from Alzheimers disease. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Fred, daughter Cindy (Dave), grandson Clay (Jovana), sister Peggy, brother Bert (Liliane), brother Jim (Betty) and numerous nieces and nephews. Dot was born and raised in St Vital, and lived in the area all of her life. Growing up she spent many happy hours with her close childhood friends, Thelma and Doreen. When she was seventeen, she met the love of her life, Fred, on the train to Grand Beach. After a two year courtship, they were married, and last June it was their 70th wedding anniversary. Grand Marais was a favourite destination, where a family cottage was the gathering place for many special occasions. Dot, Fred and Cindy spent vacation time travelling to various spots across Canada, and Mom especially loved the mountains. They also enjoyed many a weekend camping out in the Whiteshell and at Lake Katherine in Riding Mountain. Once Clay came along, a seasonal trailer spot on the waterfront at Pioneer Bay campground in Pinawa allowed them to be closer to family, and boat, fish, and socialize with the neighbours in the "Bayou". Great times were spent there over their 11 year stay. Dot was an accomplished cook and baker, sewer, knitter and crocheter, and even tried her hand at pottery and wood carving. Mom took up golf and curling later in life, and she and Dad were golf members at the Canoe Club, Wildewood and Pinawa, and curlers at both Wildwood and St. Vital. They had a varied social circle, and enjoyed the company of friends in the "Couples Club" of St. Vital United Church, and the golf group from the Canoe Club. Much time was spent with her siblings and families, including many a holiday dinner. Dot and Fred were loving and supportive parents and grandparents. They were always on hand for any event involving Cindy or Clay. Mom and Dad especially loved to follow Clay on his sports adventures, and spent many hours watching hockey and snacking on french fries - Mom's favourite from way back when she enjoyed them on the Grand Beach boardwalk. When Dot was diagnosed with Alzheimers, she spent her first years at home, lovingly cared for by Fred. After that time, she moved to River Park Gardens, where she was looked after in a kind and warm environment. Dot's family would like to thank all the caring staff, especially Lourdes, Leah, and Jan who were long time nurses in Dot's house. Many hugs and tears were shared at Mom's passing. Cremation has taken place, and a service will be held at a later time to commemorate Dot's life.
