Please make sure this message gets to Rose Rost and family, thanks . . . Ed Rost has been a tremendous influence in my life. As a young designer I worked over 3 years for Ed at Ed Rost Advertising Design in Winnipeg and as we merged with WordsNorth Communications in the 1980s. He taught me so much, he was a great Art Director and a complete professional with so much insight and experience. It was an honor to get the chance to learn from him and be part of his company. Ed had the insight and sensitivity of a multi-talented creative person combined with his experience in advertising and business. Not only was he a top notch designer, respected throughout the city among his peers, but also a professional musician, unmatched as a typographer, also a gifted wordsmith in writing headlines and advertising copywriting. He always had great respect for the profession of design, and the integrity of doing your best. He was serious about that and he let you know when you needed to improve , yet he was always fair and patient. He was also quick to compliment and encourage, he was the best kind of boss and mentor. He had standards and as you worked with him you wanted to do your best and you developed a great respect for Ed and the graphic design business itself. I was proud to work with Ed and appreciate so much the chances and example he gave me as a young designer, his lessons and example have always stayed with me. In addition to all his skills, Ed was simply a great person, he had class, insightful with his priorities, he loved his family, and had a soft spoken modesty about him as well as quiet confidence. He set a great example as a person as well as a professional. In one's life you meet certain people that impact you for good and help shape who you become, Ed Rost has always been that to me. I was a young graphic designer shopping my portfolio when Ed hired me in 1982. I worked with him for two years. I never met a kinder person. And I learned more about typography and letter spacing from him in those two years than I would the rest of my career. Ed and I had a similar offbeat sense of humour, and what I will always remember about those days on Lombard was Ed and I throwing around ideas and always — always — sharing a laugh together. - Posted by: RJ Currie (Employee Ed Rost Advertising) on: Jul 17, 2018

Ed and I became good friends in grade 1 at John M. King school in Winnipeg. Ed started his very talented art work about the same time as I started photography. Ed and Rose came to St.Marys, On. to design my business logo. Ed and Rose were both very talented musicians. We visited back and forth for many years and I will miss our CHRISTmas card exchange and our wonderful conversations on the phone . Deepest sympathy to Rose and Family. - Posted by: Maurice Oliver ( Friend for over 80 years.) on: Apr 09, 2018

Ed hired me as a graphic designer when I was newly graduated from Red River College. We shared office space on Lombard with PDM Marketing. Ed taught me a lot about design and I remember his beautiful calligraphy. He was kind and always enjoyed a hearty laugh. My sincere sympathies.
