ILSE BABLETEK March 19, 1931 - April 16, 2018 Our matriarch, our beloved Nagyi left this world peacefully surrounded by love. She leaves behind Joe, her best friend and loving companion of many years; her three daughters, Samantha-Edith, Dee-Ildiko and Barbara; son-in-law Robert; grandchildren, Steven, Jennifer, John, Cynthia, Kelly, Victoria and Joey. She will be deeply missed by her "adopted" children, Susan, Kato, Judith, Judy, Marti, Csilla, Elena and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Kalman and Ottilia Laszlo, her husband Jenoe and many dear friends. Ilse was born in Bristrita, Transylvania and spent a very happy childhood in Perii Vadului, the small village where her father taught in the one-room school house. In 1940, they moved back to Bristrita until her father was drafted into the army. In 1945 she and her mother fled to Bad Aibling, Bavaria where she finished high school, worked at the bank and married our dad. They immigrated to Winnipeg in 1953. Mum was a very active and esteemed member of the Hungarian United Church, where her father served as minister. She played a vital role in establishing and nurturing the Hungarian community where she formed many life-long friendships. We cherish our memories of summers at West Hawk Lake, and the many gatherings she loved to host at her beautiful home. Ilse fulfilled her dream of having her house filled with her children and grandchildren. Ilse was a remarkable woman. Her warmth and love will be dearly missed, and we are very blessed to have had her in our lives. We will celebrate her life on Sunday, April 22, at 1:00 p.m. at the Southwood Golf and Country Club, 80 Rue des Ruines du Monastere, St. Norbert. As a tribute to her passion for gardening, flowers are welcome at the service.

  • Ilse, or Mrs. B to me, was a fixture in my life since the age of 13 when Barbara and I became friends. I have lived in Vancouver for 29 years but have always kept in contact through cards, and up with the times, through Facebook and email! I have had lunch or visited her home every time I come to Winnipeg. I will miss her a lot. I will think of her every time I make chicken paprika. A life well lived with many many people better for having known her and having her in their lives. With much love from Kelly - Posted by: Kelly Moorhead (Life long friend.) on: Apr 21, 2018
