MILDRED DONALDSON Mildred Ilene Donaldson passed from this world on the afternoon of April 6, 2018 at the age of 83. Born on a farm near Moosehorn, Manitoba, Canada on June 27, 1934, Millie was the second youngest of six children born to Roy and Lily Wersch. She moved to the big city, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at age 18 where she found work and the love her life, Don Donaldson. Married 62 years, Millie and Donnie moved to Santa Barbara in 1960, raised two boys, Donald E. and Richard, and had many travel adventures. Besides her marriage and her two sons, Mildred's greatest joy was her grandchildren, Sean and Jason Donaldson, along with the McGonigle grandchildren, Lauren, Annie May, Patrick, and Riley. Her greatest sadness was the loss of her son, Rick, passing from a rare form of melanoma at the age of 32. Mildred was the consummate hostess. There were never enough people at the dinner table and there was always plenty of food for last-minute guests. She was well known for her lemon squares, Yorkshire pudding, blueberry pie, corn bread, and humongous 24-egg omelets cooked over a campfire at Falcon Lake, Manitoba. Her Thanksgiving turkey dinner was so fantastic, it was served at two additional family gatherings every year. Grandma Mildred will be truly missed by friends and family. An intimate family funeral has been held. As a remembrance, a donation in Mildred's memory may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
