HELEN RUBY KNIGHT (nee LEES) February 2, 1933 - April 20, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Knight on April 20, 2018. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Trent, Deborah and Michelle (Kurt); her grandchildren, Anthony (Krystal), Adam, Kai, Mace and Dane; her very first great-granddaughter Charlie; her siblings, Katie, Fred (Pauline), Irene (Pat); and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Marcellina; her beloved husband Neil; her siblings, Mary (William), John (Katie), Ann (Walter), Rose (Arnie) and Nell (Wally); her brother-in-law Louie. Helen was born in Jedburgh, Saskatchewan on February 2, 1933. She loved reminiscing about growing up in the small town and most notably attending the country dances with her siblings. Helen moved to Winnipeg and worked at the Winnipeg Winter Club. While there, she met Neil on a blind date on New Year's Eve in 1953, they married on July 17, 1954 and began their new life together. Helen loved to laugh, dance, entertain and play cards with Neil, their friends, and family... all the while raising their three children! Helen and Neil retired in Sooke, British Columbia in 1997. When they weren't watching their grandchildren, they relished traveling and exploring casinos all over Canada and the US. After Neil passed in 1999, Helen remained in Sooke and lived with her daughter, Deborah. She was a very hands on Grandma and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. As time went on, Helen could often be heard saying, "It's a great life, if you don't weaken". Helen was endeared by her family and friends and will be missed more than words can convey. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Saunders, the Victoria General Hospital, as well as the Sooke First Responders for always treating Helen with dignity and kindness. A graveside service will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park Cemetery, (4673 Falaise Road, Victoria, BC V8Y 1B4), on Saturday, May 26 at 3:00 p.m.
