DOUGLAS JOSEPH TRAEGER Douglas Joseph Traeger, 86, of Winnipeg, MB, died peacefully April 26, 2018. He was born to the late Joseph and Armand Traeger on December 25, 1931 in The Pas, MB. Douglas moved to Winnipeg as a teenager and entered into an apprenticeship in the graphic arts industry where he happily worked for over 45 years perfecting his craft. Douglas was a dedicated and loving family man who was a role model to all who knew him as a son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In the summer he could be found enjoying the beach with his children and grandchildren at his cabin in Sandy Hook. He loved fishing and camping and would be off to explore a remote lake with any of us at a moment's notice. The entire Traeger family will miss him and he will be fondly remembered in more ways than can be counted in these lines. He is survived by his three children: April Lee of Pointe Calumet, PQ, Tracy Katherine of Victoria, BC and Jeffrey Douglas of Winnipeg, MB. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A private family memorial is planned to take place in Sandy Hook later this year.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Very sorry to hear of Mr. Traeger’s passing. I remember him to be a very kind, jovial man with so much pride and love for April, Tracy and Jeff. Being friends with Tracy he always made us welcome in his home and at the cabin in Sandy Hook. Condolences to his loved ones. - Posted by: Sheila Horwood (Smith) (Friend) on: Jun 16, 2018

  • Doug was a humorous, gentle soul who thought the best of everyone and was a fantastic Granddad for Brittany. He taught Britt how to whistle and showed her time and time again how to appreciate his corny humour. Most importantly, Grandpa Doug taught Britt the importance of family. Grandpa is in heaven now... smiling.... and watching over Brittany. My condolences, Angelea - Posted by: Angelea Oughton (Brittany's Mom) on: May 12, 2018

  • Our sincere condolences on the loss of you father and grandfather, Doug. Aunty Deed remembers sharing lots of laughs with Doug and with his mom and dad, Sham & Joe. His folks were the ones who welcomed Deed into the family. We enjoyed seeing him at family breakfasts. - Posted by: Deed Chenier, Gail & Danny Adair (Aunty Deed, cousin Gail) on: May 08, 2018

  • Our sincere sympathy to April, Tracey and Jeff and to all the family for the loss of your dear father and grandfather. We used to see Doug at the Chenier breakfasts. He was always happy and laughing and so proud of his family. He was in the printing business as was my husband, Luc. His Mother, my Aunty Sham, was my Godmother. • Sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad, Jeff. My condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Susan Hart-Kulbaba (friend of Jeff) on: May 07, 2018

  • So sorry to hear of Doug's passing. My condolences to the family. He and I had a common birthday, but 11 years apart. I always thought that was pretty neat. Whenever we had family get-togethers, Doug would always show up, until the last few years. It was always good to visit and share with aunts, uncles & cousins of the Chénier family. God bless. And by the way, his mother's name is Armande, not Armand - she was named after her father. - Posted by: Annette Bonomo (cousin) on: May 05, 2018
