Born: Apr 04, 1951
Date of Passing: Jun 03, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySATORI BRIGITTE DIOP It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Satori Brigitte Diop on Sunday, June 3, 2018. Born in Bremerhaven, Germany on April 4, 1951 to Brunhilde Von Harten and Herbert Precht, Satori spent her early years in Bremerhaven with her grandparents. At 23 she was overjoyed to welcome her first-born son Sebastian Woop. Together, they moved to Bremen where she studied at University of Bremen. Upon completing her studies, she went on to manage a home for young people living with disabilities. When the home closed, she joined an ashram in Hannover, and then moved to Oregon for a short time. Satori returned to Bremen where she married her beloved husband Lamine. They had two children, Tahir and Thiané, after which they made the decision to move to Winnipeg, where Satori remained. While raising her two children she played an integral role in nurturing other people's children at the daycare she ran out of her home. She was a believer in nurturing creativity at all levels and was the director of Kinderschule (a German preschool program), and a program advisor for educational resources. Satori was a dancer and teacher for many years and conducted dance and meditation classes. For the last 10 years, Satori worked as a German language interpreter with the W.R.H.A., and with Manitoba Justice. She was active in her union (M.G.E.U.), serving as a steward and a member of the Human Rights Committee. Satori was a proud and loving mother who enjoyed watching her children grow, trusting in their ability to find their own way. She truly believed in the accomplishments and remarkable qualities of her children and of her grandchildren. She was grateful to share the last 38 years with her husband Lamine, in a relationship that was grounded in a deep, mutual respect. They enjoyed sharing many adventures across Canada and around the world. Satori was proud of her ability to connect people and cultures to create community, new networks, and creative projects. Throughout her life she was committed to her spiritual growth, following the teachings of Osho and The Way of the Heart. In addition to Lamine, Sebastian (and his wife Kristina Röske-Woop, grandchildren John and Renée), Tahir, Thiané, she leaves many family members in Germany, Sénégal, and the USA. She will also be missed by her many friends from the communities she touched. We would like to thank our friends and family for their unwavering support over the last few difficult months, as well as the exceptional staff at Riverview. Cremation has taken place at Interlake Cremation & Memorial Services. A celebration of her life with friends and family will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Gibralter, 866 St. Joseph Street, Winnipeg on Monday, June 25. Flowers gratefully declined; in memory of Satori, we ask that you donate to, and invest in, the community that you shared with her.

Oh Satori, my heart wilted today as I just found out that you have left this world. Thank you for taking me under your wing when I was a fledgling facilitator. Your reassuring smile helped calm my nerves and steady my thoughts. Our lunches together were full of laughter and tears. Thank you for the books you lent me, the unwavering attention you gave me, and the abundance of kindness you bestowed upon me. Ich werde dich nie vergessen. Mit Pauken und Trompeten durchfallen. - Posted by: Jane Langes (friend and colleague ) on: Sep 21, 2018

When I met Satori, it was with utmost amazement to find someone from my northern Germany neighbourhood. We became friends fast. Her young family of Thiane and Tahir and Papa Lamine made up for me not having any family members here. Especially since my 3 boys had flown the coup and their Dad not in the pic. Satori opened her house to me and I mine to her. I am grateful. We kept up our meetings and it is a tough loss. Her presence is missed terribly. Vom tiefesten Herzen trauer ich meiner liebe Satori. - Posted by: Helma Rogge (friend and fellow German) on: Jun 21, 2018

I got an opportunity to work with Satori since 2012 and learned so many things from her experiences and lifestyle. Satori was not only my co-worker but also a best friend. Simple living – high thinking was the best part I have learned from Satori. She was thoughtful, kind and cooperative, and one of the active members - always advocating for our team. Over the years, Satori was actively contributing to the union (i.e. MGEU) as Chef Steward and participating in most of the activities until the end of her life. Similarly, she was also an Employee Representative in Workplace Health and Safety Committee within the WRHA Language Access and continuously raised the voice on behalf of the team. She was one of the energetic activists and visionary leader. Her determination and endless contribution have encouraged us to be strong and work hard to achieve our common goal. You will be missed Satori! - Posted by: Netra (Co-worker) on: Jun 13, 2018

With fond memories and deep sadness, South Winnipeg Kinderschule mourns the loss of our former director, Satori Diop. From 2009-2011, Satori provided thoughtful, sensitive leadership to our preschool program. She embraced children and adults alike with respect for their humanity and uniqueness, celebrated their strengths, encouraging their growth. Satori modeled grace, dignity and understanding as the center for community and relationship. During her two short years with Kinderschule, Satori infused her vibrance and passion for development of the whole person into the DNA of who we are today. Her dream of a stable and broad program rich in cultural exposure for preschool children remains alive at Kinderschule today. Satori, du bleibst in unseren Herzen - Posted by: Maggie R. The last memory I have of SATORI was her visit to the falls in Thompson when we went there for Pride. She was determined to see them before making the long trip back to Winnipeg. Her dedication to helping others, deep love of family and honestly shared stories and experiences will inspire me to be a better person and strive to be just like her. My deepest condolences to all of her family and friends as we share in your grief. - Posted by: Carol Grant (Uniin sister ) on: Jun 12, 2018

Satori was an amazing woman, inspiring, smart, compassionate, caring, and fun loving too! One of my favorite memories of her was the first Winnipeg Pride Parade we attended. There was her, I and Chantal with no clue what we were doing, but we had a giant banner and a determination to march in the parade somehow. It was so windy, and we were probably the most disorganized walkers out there but we did it, laughing and smiling the whole way! She brought such spirit and zest to everything she did, and that day was no different! I will truly miss you Satori, I will think of you always 💜 - Posted by: Catherine Gibbs (Friend and fellow MGEU Equality and Human Rights committee member ) on: Jun 11, 2018

Satori was my first dance teacher and I have followed that dance for many years since that first class with her. She was warm, generous and had a vision of a dance production that I am grateful to have been a part of. I have seen her many times over the years and will always see her lovely, joyful smile when I think of her. My condolences to her loved ones. - Posted by: Beth Syrnyk (Friend/Student) on: Jun 09, 2018
