GISELA KLYMCHUK Born Gisela Volkmer, on October 31, 1923 in Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland), and died in Winnipeg on June 24, 2018 at the age of 94. Leaving Breslau in 1946, she subsequently married Andrew Felix Klymchuk and joined him at Reinhardt Kaserne refugee camp. She, her husband and infant daughter (Leonora) immigrated to Canada arriving on the "Samaria" in late 1949. Husband Andrew started working almost immediately, with the assistance of former Premier Duff Roblin, this was followed by employment with Manitoba Bridge and Winnipeg Hydro as head of Civil Engineering. A long-standing supporter of and volunteer with the Manitoba Museum of Nature and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Manitoba Museum. She was honoured by the German Government with the German-Canadian Cultural Medal for her efforts promoting German culture in Winnipeg. She leaves her daughter Leonora Bridge (Dane) of Calgary, sons, Felix of Winnipeg and Andrew (Cynthia) of Ottawa. Her grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Andrea Bridge (James Barrand) and Alexia Bridge of Calgary; Michael Piersol (Penny) of Tampa and Christopher Piersol of Ottawa. Great-grandchildren are Logan Bridge, Elsie Rose and Jacob Barrand of Calgary; Hayley and Jackson Piersol of Ottawa; and, Gavin, Peighton and Dechlan Piersol of Tampa. Cremation and a private family gathering has already taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
