Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON BOITSON April 6, 1940 - June 27, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce that Gord passed peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 78. Papa will be missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty-Ann; his children, Alesha (Terry), Robert, Christopher (Amanda) and Jennifer (TJ); his seven grandsons, Carter, Mason, Izaak, Emmett, Jack, Luke and Henry; his sister Francis McPherson as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary, and brother-in-law Gordon McPherson. Born and raised in the Winnipeg Beach area, he moved to Winnipeg as a young man where he met Betty-Ann. Gord worked as a welder for 48 years until his retirement in 2005. Following his retirement, he remained active and enjoyed working every Friday as a merchandiser at Shoppers Drug Mart. Gord was a lifelong sports fan and enjoyed participating in curling, golf and baseball; he never missed cheering on his favourite teams, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. Gord was a longtime member of Sandy Hook Golf Club and rarely missed a weekend golfing with Jim and the rest of his golfing buddies. Active in the curling community throughout his life, he donated countless volunteer hours, as an honorary lifetime member of The West Kildonan Curling Club, the Past Presidents Association of Manitoba Curling Clubs and CurlManitoba. He was always proud to wear his green Manitoba tartan blazer. His family would like to thank all the palliative care staff at Selkirk Hospital for their care and compassion through this difficult time. As per his wishes, there will be no formal service, but a Celebration of Life reception will be held on July 16, 2018 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club. A private interment will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.
