ROLF HILDEBRANDT It is with great sadness that the family of Rolf Hildebrandt announces his passing after a decade long battle on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the age of 70 years. He passed away peacefully after years and years of fighting, beating all of the odds and proving the doctors wrong. Rolf was born on September 12, 1947. He and his family came to Canada from Germany as landed immigrants on April 8, 1951. He grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the River Heights area. Rolf joined the R.C.A. in 1966 and was trained in the firefighter course. After discharge from the service, he joined Transport Canada in April, 1968 working at the Y.W.G. firehall until his retirement in 2002 with 35 years of service. There, he made lifelong friendships. Rolf then served 13 years as a security officer at McPhillips Street Station casino. Throughout his life, Rolf was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets. Rolf also enjoyed golfing, going to the race track and spending time at his property at Lake Manitoba Narrows, with his new found friends. All of this of course done with a dark rum and coke! Rolf will be missed in so many places as he touched people wherever he went with his charming personality and his sense of humour. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 41 years and life long partner, Marilyn, daughter Stacee (Mike), grandchildren, Tanya, Dylan and Amber. He is survived by his mother-in-law Mildred Fletcher, sister-in-law Sandi Quinn, sister Lucy, and his nieces and nephew. Rolf was predeceased by his parents, Lydia and Reinhold Hildebrandt, as well as his father-in-law George Fletcher. Special thanks to his son-in-law Mike for showing strength and never leaving his side for days before and up until his passing. The family will be honouring Rolf's final wishes and will not be having a formal funeral. He has already been cremated and there will be a private family burial along side his parents. Rolf's family would like to extend a huge thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their outstanding care during his illness. Memorial donations in memory of Rolf may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation. Rest in Peace
