RICHARD ANDREW HEIDRICK July 12, 1949 - June 27, 2018 Andy took his final breath in the Vancouver area during the last week of June, 2018. This concluded a span of time in which he endured the effects of a severe spinal injury sustained as a young adult. Andy lived with courage and compassion for more than 40 years after his accident, conveying a perspective on life which brought lasting lessons to those fortunate enough to cross his path. Andy's remains will rest in Brookside here in Winnipeg; it was one of his bird-watching haunts from back in the day. He had always loved engaging with nature. His previous working life with survey crews on northern Manitoba hydro projects and elsewhere was certainly in keeping with his active out-doorsy character. Andy also loved music (oh that CCR!) and sports. He maintained his interest in the local professional teams even after locating to BC over 30 years ago; a Jets white-out shirt hung proudly in his window during the recent NHL playoffs. Predeceased by his parents, Harold (Bill) and Emma, Andy is survived by siblings, Bill (Kathie Woodley), Arleen Janzen (Claudio), Jack (Wendy) and Terri Watts (Garry). In addition to nieces and nephews, other relatives near and far, Andy is survived by ex-spouse Marlene Oakley, the 'girl next door' from cottage country. Several caregivers became very close to Andy; the family remains grateful for their roles in his life. He will be missed greatly. A Celebration of Life event is being planned for the coming weeks. Donations may be made to the programs at Fort Whyte Alive or Oak Hammock Marsh. "Be safe out there."
