DERRICK RONALD MICHAEL BYCHUK June 13, 1963 - July 9, 2018 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Derrick Bychuk on Monday, July 9, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Betty. Derrick loved the wilderness ever since he was a young boy. He took it upon himself to understand his place in nature. Growing up on a farm in the Lac du Bonnet area, he was most at peace exploring the countryside. Those who knew him best saw the goodness under his proud 'big guy' demeanor. In his early 20s, his uncle nicknamed him "Fox". It suited him not only because of his fiery red head of hair, but also for the unpredictable, untamed nature of this quiet creature. As a grown man, Derrick kept his best spots for hunting and fishing a secret but generously shared his bounty of meat and fish, along with harvests from his garden with family and friends. It was always a special treat when Derrick showed up with a gift of food he provided and a story of how it came to be. Special thanks to Dr. Bruneau, Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Buduhan along with the kind and caring staff of Pinawa Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba for all of the support given through his courageous two-year battle. The aroma of smoked meat, the call of a duck or the sighting of an antler in the stillness of the bush will be reminders from Derrick that life is precious and we should appreciate not only what we are given but what we take from it.
