NINA ALICE TACKABERRY February 22, 1940 - August 13, 2018 It is with broken hearts, the family of Nina Alice Tackaberry announces the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt on August 13, 2018 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, MB at the age of 78 years. Nina was born and raised in Brandon, MB to Clifford and Isabel Butler (nee Everett). She adored her parents and who in turn adored her. Many childhood and adult memories surrounded Clear Lake, initially in the seasonal campground and then at the cottage. Nina leaves behind her partner Brian Taylor, daughters, Laurie Lipinski, Nancy Duykers (Cheryl), Lisa Carriere (Jeff), and son Paul Tackaberry (Sarah), son-in-law Richard and brother Gerald Butler (Carmen) and their family. Nine grandchildren are Nina's legacy, Benjamin (Anjum), Matthew (Stephanie), Andrew (Ashley), David, Samantha, Michael, Tyler, Alexander, Leah, and one great-grandchild Alexander. Brian's children, Kelly Taylor (Heather) and Heather Copp (Jeff) and their children, Kati, Zak, Michael and Emily, also mourn Nina's passing. Extended family and many dear friends will dearly miss Nina. Nina became a mother at a young age and spent her 20s and 30s raising four children. She trained in laboratory technology in Brandon and worked in this profession for several years while raising her children. In 1970 she moved to Winnipeg (St. James) with her husband Edwin Tackaberry and their children. Passionate for life, being both frugal, eschewing excessiveness and generous with what she had, Nina gave back to community through church, support groups and being the voice of the local citizen. A truly elegant, intelligent lady, Nina touched the hearts of many people. In her 40s, Nina, a lifelong learner, decided to pursue further education and became a social worker (BSW) specializing in child play therapy for a number of her social working years in addition to front line care with Child and Family Services. Her younger colleagues saw Nina as a mentor and a friend. Nina loved to be physically active being it cycling, hiking, golfing, cross-country skiing or any kind of dancing. Nina and Brian shared the same joys in life and had several wonderful years together in Winnipeg, Lac du Bonnet and Tucson, Arizona prior to her passing. It is known that Nina made the best pastry on the planet and an awesome pork roast! Nina loved a spontaneous good belly laugh. A funeral service will be held at Abundant Life Lutheran Church, 3486 Raleigh St., East St. Paul, MB on August 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Our family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their incredibly loving care, for all the support of the WRHA home care programs, the staff at HSC (A5/B5) and CancerCare Manitoba. Flowers are gratefully declined. Please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Nina's memory if you so wish or get outside and get some exercise! Nina would have liked that. Peace be with you Nina Belle. We love you. As you said to us Mom, "Bonne nuit. Sweet dreams."

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Nina was a good and friendly neighbour right next door in St. James, she was actively involved in the area as leader of a scouting group in which my daughter Tracy was enrolled. RIP - Posted by: Bob Bull (Neighbour) on: Sep 13, 2018

  • To all of Nina's family, we send our most sincere condolences from Vancouver Island. Clair's mother and Nina's mother worked together at Eaton's before their children were born and so began a lifelong friendship at young birthday parties, at church (Confirmation & choir), and at school. Over the years we enjoyed Nina's special visits and emails. We know that she will live on in your hearts. With our love and sympathy, Clair & Valerie Davies - Posted by: C&V Davies (friend) on: Aug 19, 2018

  • Nina and Brian were always a pleasant couple to be around at the many social events that were shared at Country Villas. • Sorry to hear about your loss Paul and family... your mom was always kind and welcoming to the kids in the neighbourhood and your house was always bustling. - Posted by: Rick Brownlee (former neighbours) on: Aug 18, 2018

  • Being 10 years apart in age, it was not until our later years that we were able to connect. And it was an instant connection! I so enjoyed the stories that she prepared to help me better understand some of the Everett family history as I worked on the family tree. She provided vivid descriptions of family episodes most often infused with a lovely sense of humour and perspective. We always planned to see each other more but both of our daily lives overrode our best intentions. I will miss the opportunity to know her better. Rest in peace Nina. You will be missed. • Nina was the type of person who left a lasting impression from the moment you met her. She was caring, wise, and genuine...a rare combination of lovely, and we were privileged to have met her and although we did not know her for very long we thought very highly of her and will miss her. Our deepest sympathy to Brian and her family. Take comfort in your memory of this wonderful lady. - Posted by: Karen and Denis Laliberte (friends) on: Aug 17, 2018 - Posted by: DENIS AND KAREN LALIBERTE (friends) on: Aug 18, 2018
