Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • September 14, 2018. Ruth called me last Monday. We spoke of the usual things, our families, our plans for Florida this year, Ruth's book she had been neglecting and her charity project funding playgrounds for small children overseas and a tad of kvetching just to round out the conversation. My history with the Gales began on Boxing Day when my husband sent me to Lady Madonna for a new wardrobe. I met Joy there both of us sitting in plush chairs with the proprietor scurrying about showing us a multitude of lovely garments. The scene on the way home was similar to the one on Pretty Woman on Hollywood Blvd. Joy and I became fast friends and soon I met Barry, Joy's husband and Ruth's son. I met Ruth soon after as she lived on Wellington close to our Winnipeg home. Joy and Barry are amazing people and our families met often until they moved to the US then Toronto. I knew of Ruth's other children only through Ruth's stories. I saw Ruth often until she too moved to Toronto. I selfishly wish they all were still here. Ruth was fiercely proud of all her children and grandchildren, and none of our frequent conversations ended without a blow by blow rendition of their accomplishments and adventures being complete. Ruth had tremendous drive and spunk...never one to mince words yet a generous and gracious host. I stayed with Ruth in Florida while on route to buy my sailboat in the Virgin Islands. This year my visit with Ruth was cut short when Ben, one of my 16 year workers died unexpectedly and I returned home. Ruth never made it to see the HMC Hilton moored in LaBelle, Florida, that was to be this coming year. Ruth was one of a kind, her theme song would be "I'll do it my way". She raised fine children who chose well then raised fine children of their own. Ruth fought the good fight She finished the race And she kept the faith What more could we ask I feel privileged to have known and dearly loved this fine woman.
