ALLAN DALE CORBY December 7, 1948 - September 7, 2018 It is with great sadness that I share the sudden passing of my beloved husband and soul mate, Al at the Victoria General Hospital, Victoria. Predeceased by his parents, Andy and Bess Corby of Selkirk, Al leaves to cherish his memory his wife Lynda, brother Paul and Sally Corby, Janet Corby, his sisters-in-law, Diane Madill (Terry Stitt) and Sharon Madill (Wade Hartwell), his aunt Clarice Hobson (Brian), and treasured godchildren, nieces and nephews. Al was a gentleman and a gentle man, bringing style, flare and grace to every part of the rich life he shared with the love of his life, his precious Lynda. He will be deeply missed and remembered for the gracious hosting of many gourmet meals that he and Lynda prepared for family and friends. He brought a special joy to those who shared holidaying in the family's cottage at Lakeshore Heights on Lake Winnipeg. Al had a passion for fashion, gardening, art, world-wide travel, cooking, fine wine and golf. He especially enjoyed that first cup of cappuccino in the morning over his crossword puzzles. Al delighted and embraced the young people in his life - his godchildren, nieces and nephews, and their families' grandchildren. Lynda and Al made their first home in Winnipeg for 25 years. There, Al made a career as a Marketing Services Manager and Promotions Coordinator / Sales Representative at Labatts Manitoba Brewery and then as Community Relations Manager for Manitoba Telecom Services. Al and Lynda moved to Victoria in 2004 to escape those frigid Manitoba winters and to enjoy Al's retirement, while being closer to family members. He and Lynda spent many weekends camping and enjoying the wonderful scenery and climate of Vancouver Island. Al also renewed his interest in painting watercolours which helped to adorn their Victoria apartment. Palm Springs became a favourite winter haven for golf and to soak up the sunshine. The celebration of Al's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Society, the Victoria Humane Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Al passed away from a brain hemorrhage and his family specially thanks the medical staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and the ICU neuroscience staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion. Thanks too for the outpouring of love from our family and many friends. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.DignityMemorial.com "To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go." Mary Oliver, poet. Al, you will always be in our hearts.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • It was with shock and sadness that I read of Al's passing. He is gone too soon. I remember that he was always glad to support many community activities in his days as a rep for the brewery and again at MTS. We enjoyed many a fine beverage together during which we told tall tales about our golfing abilities. Al was one of "the good guys." He will be missed. - Posted by: Del Sexsmith (Friend) on: Sep 19, 2018

  • I worked with Al when I was President of Chapter 50 of the Telephone Pioneers, Manitoba Telephone System's community services volunteer organization. • I knew Al when he worked at MTS and I was also his Insurance Agent after I retired from MTS. Al was a gentleman, kind, gentile and will be missed. I am sorry for your loss . He will be missed - Posted by: Donna Wainikka (Volunteer for MTS volunteers) on: Sep 17, 2018

  • I had the opportunity to work with Al during the Pan Am Games in 1999. He was a wonderful person - most considerate and caring to all around him. His smile and gentle manner made going to work pleasant and he always had a way of easing any stressful situation. I'm sure there will be a void in the lives of all that knew him but pleasant memories will remain. Al, may you be at peace and God Bless you. - Posted by: Carol Riel (Friend from work at MTS) on: Sep 16, 2018
