MICHAEL LYON GULD April 8, 1958 - September 19, 2018 Mike was born in Winnipeg then moved to Vancouver where he remained for the rest of his life. Mike fought a courageous battle with cancer and beating all the odds, he lived 11 years longer than his prognosis. He was a strong, stubborn man who loved life, and was always ready with a quip or joke. He spent his free time volunteering in the community, golfing, and challenging himself physically. As a teenager, Mike joined the JB Mitchell School track team, and despite never winning a race, he never stopped pushing. He was just too stubborn to give up. He also loved water skiing and swimming at Falcon Lake. He often got up at the crack of dawn to ski on the "lake of glass". When he moved to Vancouver he started competing in triathlons. Mike also loved playing all sorts of games, from endless Risk games to all night poker games which he played with the same close group of childhood friends, once a month, for more than 30 years. Playing poker at the local casinos and in Vegas was one of the few activities that kept his mind alert during the last several years as the cancer progressed. Mike's love of travelling took him and his family all over the planet. Mike left this world at peace with himself and with most of his dreams fulfilled. His only regret was leaving his sons, Max and Isaac. Also left to mourn him, his mother Pauli Guld; brothers, Barry (Traudi, Enrico, Noah, and Aria), Tom (Michelyn, Aidan and Tovah); sister Anne (Greg, Leah, Danielle), and brother-in-law Leonard Hornstein. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
