Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTHA STRACHAN (nee TAYLOR) September 24, 1917 - September 26, 2018 Peacefully, and with family by her side, Martha "Mattie" Strachan passed away, at Park Manor Personal Care Home, on September 26, 2018 at the age of 101 years. Mattie was predeceased by her husband Wilson, her son Jim, daughter Grace, and sons-in-law, Albert, and Ken. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter Jean, 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends from here, in both Canada and Scotland. Mattie was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 24, 1917. Mattie and Wilson married there in 1935, before arriving in Canada, where they made many lifelong friends and started a family which has grown exponentially over the years. Mattie enjoyed bowling, dancing and was known for knitting little outfits for all of the newborn babies in her family, along with her unique dishcloths. Mattie was a proud member of the Transcona United Church and Transcona Legion. Mattie loved spending time at the Legion and always said "when I get better, I'm going to walk up to the Legion to be with my friends." In her senior years, Mattie took pleasure in riding the bus weekly to join her female Eaton's co-workers for weekly lunches. Mattie's greatest pride was her family and she was happy in seeing it grow over the years. With a strong sense of faith, humour, enjoyment of life and endless love, Mattie will be cherished and missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mrs. Linda Trentholm will be officiating the service. An interment will be held at Transcona Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff and volunteers of Park Manor Personal Care Home for their dedicated care during Mattie's last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Mattie... "A Life Well Lived" Thank you for the years we had and the memories we shared. Both Ken and Jean, as well as many close family children and grandchildren, dedicated a large portion of their lives helping with the care of Mattie.
