CECILE BERARD (nee FERLAND) In loving memory of Cécile Bérard (nee Ferland), who passed away at Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, September 27, 2018. For 75 years, Cécile brightened our lives and blessed us with her presence. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who will forever live in the hearts of her husband, Gilbert, son Marc and his wife Rhonda, daughter Josette and her husband Brian Pommer, and only grandchild Alexa. Cécile will also be sadly missed by a large, loving, extended family, including: Jeannette and Roland Banville, Aurel Bérard, Denis and Sylvia Bérard, Léo and Judy Bérard, Robert and Debbie Bérard, Louise and Raymond Tétreault, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her parents, Laurette and Sauveur Ferland, her parents-in-law, Irène and Antonio Bérard, her aunt Denise Dunlop, her sister-in-law Armande Bérard, and her nephews, Roger Bérard and Ron McDonell. Born during the Second World War, Cécile was an only child who spent her early childhood in Lorette, Manitoba. She later moved to Dryden, Ontario until her parents finally resettled in Winnipeg. As a teenager, Cécile met the love of her life and future husband, her beloved Gilbert. They were married in 1963, became parents to Marc and Josette and spent the next 55 years building a busy, eventful life together. Except for a brief relocation to Calgary, Cécile and her family resided in Winnipeg throughout that time. With her extraordinary talent for decorating, gardening, cooking, baking and welcoming guests, Cécile made her home a wonderful gathering place for countless meals, parties and special occasions. Throughout her life, she devoted much of her time and energy to the people she loved. She was a beautiful, outgoing, talkative and fun-loving woman. She genuinely cared about others, made friends wherever she went and more than anything, always loved to laugh. She was quite mischievous, loved practical jokes and had an amazing (sometimes naughty!) sense of humour. Cécile cherished the many special friendships she made along the way, including those with Jeannette Roy, Louise Tétreault, The Frogettes - Joey Bernes, Alice Rajotte and Monique Prefontaine, the Golden Willow crew, the Golden Girls book club, and the Winslow neighbours, among others. Above all, Cécile was a dedicated, thoughtful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Known for her hardworking and super organized nature, she went above and beyond when it came to helping her family. In good times and in bad, she was ever present, providing encouragement or lending a hand in any matter, large or small. Cécile understood the importance of making memories and was responsible for so many of the happy moments they shared. As a grandmother (Mémère), she was exceptional and showered her beloved granddaughter, Alexa with a huge amount of attention, time and affection. The two had an incredibly special bond, which influenced Alexa in such a positive way. Needless to say, Cécile touched many lives with her kindness, support and generosity and for that, we are forever grateful. She is deeply loved and will be missed more than words can say. Cécile lived with lung disease for more than 14 years. She was most grateful for the excellent care she received along the way. Her family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to: Dr. Frederic Ball, Sabina and staff at St. Boniface Clinic; Dr. Gregg Eschun, Christine and staff at St. Boniface Hospital; W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program; Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit; all the family and friends who called, wrote and visited during Cécile's illness and this time of mourning. According to Cécile's wishes, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to: Canadian Lung Association (Manitoba Division), 301-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6, (204) 774-5501 Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
