Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID (PHIL) PHILIP MARTIN February 10, 1948 - October 8, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David "Phil" Martin on October 8, 2018, at the age of 70 years. Phil leaves to mourn his partner Nicole; daughters, Kim (Scott) and Nancy (Mike); granddaughters, Kendall, Veronica, and Serena; brothers, Lyle (Dale), Grant (Val), Pat (Tara), and Rod (Dianne); sisters, Virginia (Chris) and Joann (Doug); Nicole's children, Rachelle (Rob), Marc (Christy), and Lisa; Nicole's grandchildren, Dylan, Masson, Carson, Caylin, Alexis, Julie, Rylie, Tristan, and Jayden; Nicole's siblings; former wife Corinne (Brian), along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Phil grew up in the St. James area of Winnipeg where he met Corinne. Phil and Corinne married in 1969 and shortly afterwards moved to Wayoata Street in Transcona, where they started their family and made lifelong friendships with their neighbours. Phil and Corinne eventually divorced, but remained good friends. Phil worked various jobs as a young man before beginning his career with Winnipeg Transit in 1973. He was hired as a Bus Operator and worked his way through the ranks up to Chief Timekeeper, prior to retiring in 2001. He was well-liked by his co-workers and was known for being down-to-earth and sensible. It was during his years with Transit that he met Nicole, who was also a Bus Operator. Phil and Nicole's home was open to friends and family - weekly cribbage tournaments, and many gatherings have been held there over the years. Phil loved all types of sports, crossword puzzles, jokes, and a good rye and coke pressed. Phil was gruff, but had a heart of gold, and he was never shy to share his opinion. In his younger days, Phil was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. In recent years his deteriorating health prevented him from participating in the sports he loved, but he enjoyed watching them on tv. Kim and Nancy would like to thank Nicole and Patrick Yvon for taking excellent care of Phil, ensuring that he was able to stay in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by the people he loved. Phil spent his final hours sharing a Thanksgiving meal with friends and family, watching golf, and complaining about the pie crust (although he still ate it)! As per Phil's wishes, there will be no formal service. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com
