BARBARA ANN KURYLUK (nee SOCHASKY) (PELLACK) Peacefully, on October 26, 2018, Barb passed away at the Grace Hospital, with her husband by her side, after many years of pain and suffering. She is now at peace. Born in Winnipeg on October 11 to Joseph Sochasky and Rose Sysak. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Ted Kuryluk; stepson Jon; two adopted daughters, Kim and Kris; stepdaughter Tara (Ralston); grandson David; stepgrandchildren, Dawnysha and Dontae. Predeceased by her father Joseph in 1967; mother Rosalia in 1985; granddaughter Amanda in 1994 (age six); and brother Richard in 2017. Born in Winnipeg's North End she started her education at Isaac Newton, followed by Sturgeon Creek Collegiate. With her first marriage to Alvin Pellack, they adopted two daughters, Kim and Kristen. They divorced in 1979. She married Ted in 1982 and worked tirelessly with him at a number of projects. Together she worked as a partner in their ventures in real estate and construction. She took the idea of a Fire Fighters Museum under her wing and would not stop until it was successfully opened. There, she had a major role in turning a retired fire hall into a historical mecca. Her cherished newspaper scrapbooks remain as a testament of her labour of love for history. She also worked with Ted on a number of projects with the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, Local 867 and the Firefighters Burn Fund. Las Vegas was a favourite destination of hers. There she felt at home, cramming many hours of fun at both the pool and in the casino. Although not the same as Vegas, she will be missed by many friends and acquaintances at Legends. One of Barb's favourite hobbies was her crossword puzzles and gardening, although becoming increasingly difficult in her later years. She was blessed with a number of faithful canine companions: Woofy, a friend to all, Pharo a Doberman Pincher, Scruffy a dog that stole the heart of many and Travis - a few genes short of being human. She has left her current buddies, a Miniature Schnauzer - Shadrack and a Yorkie puppy named Frosty. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, the staff at the Grace Hospital ER and 3 North for their care and compassion that Barb was given during her time of need. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Fire Fighters Museum, 56 Maple St. at 11:00 a.m., on November 12, 2018. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Barb's name to the Fire Fighters Historical Society of Winnipeg, The Firefighters Burn Fund or a charity of choice, with emphasis on care and preservation of animals and wildlife. "She walked with us, spoke and listened, Helped and taught us how to help, Made waves and stirred up emotions, Showed warmth and disdain, Brought happiness and colour into our lives, She's not gone, She's just waiting in another place Until we can be together again." www.voyagefuneralhomes.com
