ALICE BUYSER URSUA TULANG PAGTAKHAN In loving memory of Mrs. Alice Buyser Ursua Tulang Pagtakhan, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, who passed away, surrounded by family on November 11, 2018 at the age of 69 years. Alice was predeceased by her father, Mr. Margarito Tulang and her mother Mrs. Adoracion Ursua Tulang. Alice will be deeply missed by her husband of 49 years, Mr. Rafael Daluz Pagtakhan, her children: Michael (Mines), Patrick (Christina) and Adam; grandchildren: Cassie, Ian, Griffin, Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Gabriel; sisters: Gretel, Nenet, Princess (Menhart), and brother Leo (Bebeth); nieces and nephews: Andrew, Angeline, Marygold, Oji, Reggie and Cessmai, and her Auntie Marietta. Left to cherish on her memory are many relatives and friends from Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Victoria, the US, Europe and the Philippines. Alice was born in Placer, Surigao del Norte, Philippines on November 13, 1948. She immigrated to Canada in 1973 and lived in St. Vital where she and her husband Rafael raised their three sons, Michael, Patrick and Adam. Alice was a generous and community minded individual. During her sons' elementary years she got involved as a parent volunteer at her sons' schools, whether it was helping organize Christmas concerts, school fundraisers, or school field trips, Alice was there to help out in more ways than one. She always had a way with kids, being able to make an easy connection with youth. She was a very cool mom! When family or friends came over, she ensured everyone felt at home and were well looked after. At work, Alice was a proud member of the food services staff at St. Boniface General Hospital where she had worked for many years part-time and in later years full time. She made many friends at St. Boniface and had many fond memories of her time at work. She retired from St. Boniface in 2014. Alice loved to garden, and kept a beautiful garden at home. She would spend hours on her garden and derived a tremendous amount of pride from that. She also loved to travel, and she loved Canada. She had always wanted to see the Nation's capital and was happy to have recently visited Ottawa, Montreal and Kingston. Alice was also an exceptional organizer and campaigner who spent many hours door knocking, phoning and organizing election day logistics for her son Michael's civic election campaigns. She was a fantastic sounding board, voice of reason and inspiration to her son during his time on Winnipeg City Council. Most importantly Alice loved the many family traditions when family would come together, be it birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Spending time with her sons and daughters-in-law, Mines and Christina, and grandchildren, Cassie, Ian, Griffin, Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Gabriel were the greatest joys for Alice. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of CancerCare Manitoba, and the Health Sciences Centre doctors and nursing staff for all the exceptional help, support and care of Alice. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road. Alice's Celebration of Life will take place after at Glen Lawn Memorial Garden & Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Mike, I offer my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your Mom. As told so lovingly, she was your rock, and your biggest supporter, as she must have been to all the members of her family. Take time to grieve, and then revel in the memories which will sustain you in the years that come. And along the way, teach your children who your mother was for you - that is their history. They deserve to know all about their grandmother. - Posted by: Linda Henderson (Friend of Mike's) on: Nov 20, 2018
