JAMES (JIM) PEARL WHITMAN November 11, 1930 - November 16, 2018 James Pearl Whitman passed away after a long illness, on Friday, November 16, 2018, just days after celebrating his 88th birthday with his family and longtime friend Helen, who sat with him many times when family could not be there. Jim was born November 11, 1930 in Winnipeg to Roy and Mildred Whitman. Left to survive Jim are his wife of 42 years, Audrey; sons, Craig (Carol), Tim (HoMin), Neil; daughters, Janine and Judy; grandchildren, Brandy (Ian), Natasha (Darien), Evan and Alex were the sunshine of his life. He adored them and was so proud of their achievements, attending school concerts, sports games and encouraging them to reach for the top in everything they did. He was predeceased by first wife Beverley; his parents, Roy and Mildred; sisters, Fran, and Hazel; and half siblings, Wilfred, Frank, Bernie and Grace, and is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. Jim worked for Venus Industries, then operated a Dairy Queen for many years. He ended his working time working for Ram Messenger, meeting and making new friends as he went about his routes. He loved to golf and was a member of Southwood Golf Course where he proudly scored his one and only "Hole in One". He participated in the community club, coaching hockey teams and was involved with the community football teams, which were his two favourite sports. Growing up and attending school in the St. Vital area, Jim made many lifelong friends. Several friends from St. Vital started a "Breakfast Club" at which Jim was a regular attendee enjoying reminiscing and trading stories of bygone days. He enjoyed having friends and family to share holidays, dinner and just sitting in the back yard having his "shot of scotch" with friends and neighbours. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue, (Fort Richmond), Winnipeg, MB with Elizabeth Brown officiating. Interment will be held at a later date when family can get together. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's choice. Mr. Whitman has been in my life from the day I was born.. as a child I was terrified..lol fell in his front planter as he came around the corner..and could not get out.. He seemed so big and scary to a 3 year old..looking back, I'm sure he got a good laugh about it.. In recent weeks I was given the gift of spending some time with him.. He took me to his special room and shared memories of my father with me, and a tribute he had on the wall.. the scary giant was a gentle pure heart who touched my life.. I hope he is with my mom and dad now.. his friends across the street for many year.. May you all be healthy, happy and at peace.. xxoo - Posted by: "Cork" (Long term family friend) on: Nov 24, 2018
